Summary:
Detectives Cross and Sampson are tracking a serial killer who’s fatally ambushing young men in the “Dead Hours” murders. They don’t hear the machine gun fire. At first.
“Drop whatever you’re doing, Dr. Cross, and head to Reagan Airport,” DC Metro Police dispatch says. “A plane just crashed and exploded on the runway. The chief and the FBI want you and John Sampson there pronto.”
The weapon that took down the plane is a remote-controlled Vietnam-War-era machine gun. The list of those who possess the training and expertise to operate the stolen, .50-caliber weapon is short. And time runs even shorter.
As Cross and Sampson race to prevent another mass murder, their fearsomely armed opponent once again looks skyward.
My thoughts:
I am determined to get caught up in this series this year…and I’m almost there. This is my favorite series of all the series James Patterson writes, and I just love that it is still going so strong after all these books!
There are a lot of moving parts in this installment – Alex and Sampson are working one case, Bree is working another, Ali is getting himself into trouble, Nana Mama is going back to work (have I mentioned how much I love Nana Mama?), and a commercial plane gets shot down…and somehow, most of this is all connected! Of course it is, right?!? I loved that Ali somehow manages to get himself involved in the case that Alex and Sampson are working on and just happens to find some clues that everyone else misses. Did anyone read the Ali books? They are YA mystery books but this totally made me think of that.
This book, as with all the books in this series, move at a break-neck speed and with the short chapters and mini cliffhangers at the end of many of those chapters, you just cannot help but keep flipping those pages. The twists and turns keep you guessing and it comes together at the end in ways I didn’t see coming…of course with a major cliffhanger! Guess I’ll be reading that next book sooner than I thought!
