Step out of the
winter chill and into the warmth of Fool’s Gold, California, the
charming small-town setting for a new holiday novella from New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery

Famous
former NFL stars don’t date single working moms like Bailey Voss.
She’ll allow herself to daydream about Kenny Scott’s muscles and killer
smile, but wanting more would lead to post-holiday regret. Then Kenny
volunteers to run a toy drive with Bailey, and she learns that he’s not
just hot…he’s also generous, funny, nice. The whole
package—tantalizingly out of reach.

The ache of past loss reminds
Kenny why he needs to avoid getting too close to anyone. Especially to a
gorgeous redhead and her adorable little girl. Mess it up, and he’d
lose them both. Yet Kenny can only resist Bailey for so long. And as
festive spirit spreads throughout the town, he’s all wrapped up in
Bailey’s sweet, sexy kisses and determined to make this the first of
many Christmases together…

My thoughts: This series just keeps getting better and better! I don’t know how Susan Mallery manages to do it, with four books out each year in this series only…but the stories are fun, sweet and include just the right amount of romance that they will have you falling in love with them.

I’ve been waiting for Kenny and Bailey’s story for a while now. Ever since first meeting them in this year’s trilogy of books, it was evident that there was something happening between them. They just needed to work some things out – mainly Kenny having a thing against dating single mothers. Oh, and Bailey’s daughter, Chloe – I just loved Kenny’s interactions with her. It was so clear that not only did have a thing for Bailey, but that Chloe had wormed her way into his heart, too.

My only complaint about this book is that it’s a novella instead of a full-length novel. I would have loved to have more of Kenny and Bailey’s story, but nevertheless, it was still a sweet romance that had me shed a tear or two. Add in that the story takes place around the holidays and it just seems even more touching.

Once again, as in her previous holiday book, Christmas on 4th Street, Susan Mallery has created a fun scavenger hunt to do while reading. What a neat, fun idea and the objects she uses all came from her readers.

Now that I am caught up in this series, I have to wait until the release of next’s years trilogy to visit with my Fool’s Gold family – and isn’t that what it really feels like if you read this series? That the characters have almost become like family and that with each new book, it’s like reconnecting with them? While putting out 3-4 books a year is a lot, waiting in-between books seems like forever!

This does sound like a sweet story. It is always a little disappointing when characters we love end up with a novella when we want more of them!
