An original short story from The New York Times bestselling duo, Iris
Johansen and Roy Johansen. Blind for the first twenty years of her
life, Kendra Michaels learned at an early age to become hyper-aware of
her surroundings, perfecting the art of picking up the most subtle
audio, olfactory, and tactile cues in the world around her. Kendra’s
astonishing powers of observation and analysis have made her a favorite
of law enforcement agencies all across the country. She cares little for
investigative work but can’t deny her unique skill, or the results
she’s been able to facilitate. Like a secret weapon, she is in high
demand, but her talents are put to the test when her mentor calls on her
to help solve a mysterious disappearance and she uncovers one explosive
secret that not even the police want her to find.

My thoughts: I am a huge fan of Iris Johansen’s Eve Duncan series and first met Kendra Michaels in the book Sleep No More. Ever since reading that book, I knew I had to go back and read more about Kendra Michaels. This short story is the introduction to Kendra and while it is a very short story, I did enjoy it!

Kendra is quite a remarkable person. She was blind for the first 20 years of her life until she underwent stem cell surgery to restore her vision. While blind, her other senses became hyper-sensitive, making her ultra aware of her surroundings. This skill makes her a valuable asset to law enforcement and the FBI and in this case, a friend who’s fiance goes missing.

I loved Kendra when I first met her in Sleep No More and am glad she’s getting her own series! I find her to be a very interesting character and love the writing duo of mother/son team Iris and Roy Johansen!!!
