Summary:

A woman is found murdered in her home. On her desk is a note with a phone number and a Detective Konrad.

Called in to investigate, Konrad realises he met the woman shortly before her death when she asked him for help locating the child she’d given up for adoption fifty years earlier. Distressed at having declined her request, Konrad vows to make up for it. Could her murder and the search for her missing child be linked?

My thoughts:

It’s no secret that I am a HUGE fan of #NordicNoir and Arnaldur Indridson is a newer author that I am so glad I have discovered…thanks to the folks at Minotaur Books! This book, The Quiet Mother, is the 3rd installment in Indridson’s Detective Konrad series, though he does have quite an extensive list of books, including other series, that you better believe I’ll be checking to see if they have also been translated into English and if so, I’ll be ordering! ⁣

But back to this book, which is available here in the states, as are the previous two books in the series. And I’ll just start by saying, I do highly recommend reading this series in order as there are some threads carried over from book to book, with each new book adding new information. Plus, you really get a feel for the main characters and who they are if you read in order.⁣

That being said, each book does involve a self-contained case that Konrad finds himself working on as well as the mystery surrounding his father’s murder all those years ago. ⁣

This particular installment again has a lot of moving parts and follows the pattern of a present-day case with a cold case. This book is a slow-burn and it jumps times & storylines quite frequently, so you really need to be present while reading — making it the perfect book to read during these cold days! I found it to be quite puzzling at times, but it does all come together eventually and when it does, it all makes sense. This is one of those books that, definitely dark in nature, is quieter in its devastation. It’s a story of guilt, regret and redemption that not only affects those seeking help from Konrad, but we see it hits Konrad as well. ⁣

If you can’t tell … I love this series!!⁣
