And Capri thinks they might be right, since lately her tours have been attracting even more obsessives than usual–as it turns out, finding the actual serial killer who committed the “Overkill Bill” murders didn’t stop the constant questions about her grandfather’s supposed crimes, it only intensified them.
But Capri would never forgive herself if someone is in trouble and she walks away. Plus, something about the whole situation has every one of Capri’s investigative journalist instincts going haywire–why would someone lie about seeing an attack? So Capri starts to dig, and when her questions lead to a body, she finds herself at the center of another murder investigation.
My thoughts:
This is the 2nd book in The Serial Killer Guide to San Francisco series and I am a fan! I love that it has both darker elements and cozy moments, making it appeal to a wider audience. It definitely gives of Finlay Donovan vibes for sure, though it does have its darker moments – our main character is the granddaughter of a serial killer and that case does haunt her for sure!
This second book picks up shortly after the first and quite quickly Capri finds herself in the middle of an investigation that is full of twists and turns. Everyone involved has something to hide and it really keeps Capri and the reader guessing!
I love how the author is able to infuse so much of the history and flavor of San Francisco into the book as she does. It’s been a while since I’ve been there, but after reading this book, I am definitely itching for a trip back. The streets really do come alive on Capri’s walking tours and I feel like I am right there with her.
I also love that in this second book, we get more insight into Capri, more history into her ex-husband and a new love interest for Capri. It’s this continued character development that is just as exciting to me as the cases – they all come together for such an engaging, compelling read that has me definitely wanting more!
Audio thoughts:
I listened to this one and was thrilled that Stephanie Nemeth-Parker was back as the narrator! She did an amazing job bringing this book to life. She infused just the right amount of emotion, tension and humor into her voice as needed.
