Summary:
“The murderer is with us—on the train now . . .”
Just after midnight, the famous Orient Express is stopped in its tracks by a snowdrift. By morning, the millionaire Samuel Edward Ratchett lies dead in his compartment, stabbed a dozen times, his door locked from the inside. Without a shred of doubt, one of his fellow passengers is the murderer.
Isolated by the storm, detective Hercule Poirot must find the killer among a dozen of the dead man’s enemies, before the murderer decides to strike again.
My thoughts:
March’s theme for #ReadChristie2026 is Biggest Impact on You as a Reader and once again I went with the official pick,
Murder on the Orient Express.
This is a reread for me and the very 1st Agatha Christie book I ever read!! It started my love affair with writing and with the ever-clever Poirot on the case. Locked-room mysteries are one of my favorite tropes within the mystery genre and this one is just so well-done. This truly has stood the test of time, still managing to stump me even now. Each character is as unique as their alibi and I was truly unable to figure it out until Christie provides her big reveal at the end!
I am loving the overall theme of this year’s challenge: Biggest, Best, Beloved. I love that some of my favorites are aligning with everyone else’s!
