Month in Review: December 2023

We made it to the end of another year! I don’t know about you, but it seems like these last few months have just flown by…but that’s ok. I’m ready for the new year to start. I had an ok reading month. I had hoped to get to a few more books, but I still enjoyed the ones I read.

Looking ahead, there are some really good books coming out in 2024 and it’s going to be hard to keep up with all of them plus read what I already have…we’ll see how that goes. I’m still trying to figure out a better system for staying on top of reviews…more to come on that.

MY TOP 5 OF DECEMBER:

***I saw this on a friend’s blog and really liked it, so I’m adding it to my monthly wrap-ups.

  1. Favorite book(s) of December – these books are the ones I absolutely loved and will be recommending to everyone. They will be staying on my shelf and might even be rereads at some point in the future.
    • The Frozen River
    • Miracle Creek
    • The Fury
    • Us Against You
    • Ordinary Grace
  2. Biggest Surprise of December: How emotional Since She’s Been Gone was. As a thriller, I wasn’t expecting that but it works so well for the story. Definitely recommend!
  3. Biggest Disappointment of December: A few books I thought were going to be better just turned out to be mediocre reads. Didn’t hate them, just didn’t love them as I had expected to.
  4. Favorite Part of Month – Finishing up my book blanket and selecting the colors for next year’s blanket. I have loved doing this project all year long and I am looking forward to doing it again next year!
  5. 5 Books I’m most looking forward to reading next month:
    • The Winners by Fredrik Backman – I am both looking forward to finishing up this amazing series, but also dreading it as each book so far has completely broken my heart and I know this final book in the series will most likely do the same.
    • Only If You Are Lucky by Stacy Willingham – This is Stacy’s 3rd book and I have loved her previous two…can’t wait to see what this new one is all about! Out January 16th.
    • The Mysterious Case of the Alperton Angels by Janice Hallett – I have become a big fan of this author – her books tend to use unique formats and I cannot wait to see what this one entails. Out January 23rd.
    • The Disappearance of Astrid Bricard by Natasha Lester – I am a big fan of Natasha’s historical fiction and I cannot wait to start this one. Out January 30th.
    • The Turtle House by Churchill– This is the January read for the Thought’s from a Page Patreon Early Read’s Group I am in…and I am so excited to read it and be able to chat with the author. Out February 20th.

So tell me, what was your favorite read of the month? What are you looking forward to reading in the new year?
