Summary:

In the trauma center of Atlanta’s busiest hospital, Sara Linton treats the city’s poor, wounded, and unlucky – and finds refuge from the tragedy that rocked her life in rural Grant County. Then, in one instant, Sara is thrust into a frantic police investigation, coming face-to-face with a tall driven detective and his quiet female partner….

In Undone, three unforgettable characters from Karin Slaughter’s New York Times best-selling novels Faithless and Fractured collide for the first time, entering an electrifying race against the clock – and a duel with unspeakable human evil.

My thoughts:

This is the third book in Karin Slaughter’s Will Trent series and the one I’ve been waiting for…when Will Trent and Sara Linton finally meet!!! Now I see why it was a good idea to read the Grant County series before starting the Will Trent series…there really is so much background that comes into play here for both characters and I am looking forward to seeing their character development as they move forward.

But as far as this particular installment – wow, another dark, gruesome case. There’s not usually much that bothers me when I’m reading because I know it’s fiction but this time it really got to me…I found I had to take a break a few times because this one was rough – the tortue the women endured was just too hard at times. But yet, I was still eager to get back to it because I wanted whoever was behind it to be captured!

What I love about these books is that even with all the darkness and grittiness that we get, it is balanced out with such rich character development for our protagonists. This really is the first time we have seen Sara Linton since all that transpired in Beyond Reach and if you have read that, you know what I’m talking about. If you haven’t – you need to. She’s not quite over things and I’m curious to see how that all plays out moving forward.

Then there’s the relationship, or whatever you might call it, between Will and Angie. She wasn’t ever a favorite of mine, but after what happened in this book, I’m definitely not a fan! But I am loving the partnership Will has with Faith. Not only are they really starting to click professionally, but I think personally, their friendship has deepened and I think that is going to be a good thing for both of them.

As a big series reader, it’s always the character relationships that I love seeing grow and change over the course of time. And now that Will and Sara have met, I’m so eager to see how that relationship changes. Of course, I know this isn’t a romance series and things will continue to be dark and gruesome, which I do like, but liking the characters make the series so much more enticing!

Audio thoughts:

I almost got the wrong audio version…the first one I grabbed had a different narrator. I’m a Kathleen Early fan through and through and I double checked to see if she had indeed narrated this one and was able to find it at my library…thank goodness! She really does such a great job with this series and is so consistent with the voices. She also gets the nuances of Karin Slaughter’s characters and writing, which makes a big difference when it comes to her style.
