Summary:

Now with a beautiful new series look, a classic mystery from the Queen of Crime in which the indomitable Miss Marple exposes a small town’s shameful secrets.

Lymstock is a town with more than its share of scandalous secrets–a town where even a sudden outbreak of anonymous hate mail causes only a minor stir.

But all that changes when one of the recipients, Mrs. Symmington, commits suicide. Her final note says “I can’t go on,” but Miss Marple questions the coroner’s verdict of suicide.

Soon nobody is sure of anyone–as secrets stop being shameful and start becoming deadly.

My thoughts:

I am still participating in the #ReadChristie2023 Challenge, just a little behind in getting my reviews up! This was March’s book, and the prompt was anger. The main selection was The Moving Finger, and not only is this a book I haven’t read yet, it also was a book I was received from the publisher last year but never got around to reading…so total win for me!

This was actually my first time reading any of the Miss Marple books, which I was excited about! Even though this is the 4th book in the series, I jumped right in. I do think at some point, I will be going back and rereading this entire series. I found it odd that Miss Marple doesn’t make an appearance until more than halfway through the book. I kept waiting for her to show up but when she does, she clearly steals the show, at least in my opinion.

Of course, even though at this point, I have read quite a few Agatha Christie mysteries, I am still not able to figure them out…but I’m totally okay with that. I love reading her work and I’m excited to read more Miss Marple mysteries. I think because she is a dowdy old lady that no one tends to take her seriously when she is around and so she is able to observe without anyone really paying attention to her.

One thing I do love about Agatha Christie’s books is how she makes these small villages come to life. The characters are so well-developed and really stand out. I’m very eager to continue reading more of the Miss Marple series…especially with these gorgeous new covers!
