Summary:
A practical joke goes chillingly, murderously wrong in Queen of Mystery Agatha Christie’s classic detective story, The Seven Dials Mystery.
Gerry Wade had proved himself to be a champion sleeper, so the other houseguests decided to play a practical joke on him. Eight alarm clocks were set to go off, one after the other, starting at 6:30 a.m. But when morning arrived, one clock was missing and the prank then backfired, with tragic consequences.
For Jimmy Thesiger in particular, the words “Seven Dials” were to take on a new and chilling significance…
My thoughts:
I have once again decided to take on the @officialagathachristie reading challenge as I am loving the idea of reading at least one Agatha Christie book a month. And I love the theme this year — Biggest, Best, Beloved. This year holds many milestones for our beloved Agatha Christie, including 50 years since her passing, 100 years since the publication of The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, and 50 years since the publication of her last published novel, Sleeping Murder.
January’s theme for #ReadChristie2026 is Best Opening & I went with one of the alternative picks, The Seven Dials Mystery.
This has a great opening and kept me fully engaged start to finish! I really liked Bundle and found her to be quite the firecracker. I haven’t read any of the other books she’s in – this is part of the Superintendent Battle series and the 1st one I’ve read.
I loved the way Christie mixed in mystery with humor here. We have a secret society, members wearing masks and all the while Christie manages to play tricks right before our eyes. Ever the clever one that Christie!!
One of the reasons I picked this book instead of the main pick is because I plan on watching the Netflix series and of course had to read the book first! Now I’m all set!!
Purchasing from the link below supports independent bookstores and my blog!
You think you’ve read every variation of a mystery, and then you face a new one. The magic of Christie
