SUMMARY:

In this fierce and funny battle of the exes, Ashley Winstead’s FOOL ME ONCE explores the chaos of wanting what you already had.

Lee Stone is a twenty-first-century woman: she kicks butt at her job as a communications director at a women-run electric car company (that’s better than Tesla, thank you) and after work she is “Stoner,” drinking guys under the table and never letting any of them get too comfortable in her bed…

That’s because Lee’s learned one big lesson: never trust men. Four major heartbreaks set her straight, from her father cheating on her mom all the way to Ben Laderman in grad school—who wasn’t actually cheating, but she could have sworn he was, so she reciprocated in kind.

Then Ben shows up five years later, working as a policy expert for the most liberal governor in Texas history, just as Lee is trying to get a clean energy bill rolling. Things get complicated—and competitive as Lee and Ben are forced to work together. Tension builds just as old sparks reignite, fanning the flames for a romantic dustup the size of Texas.

My thoughts:

There are a select few authors that I will jump at the chance to read just about anything they write, including romcoms, and Ashley Winstead is definitely one of them. I absolutely loved her debut novel, In My Dreams I Hold a Knife and just had to give this new book a chance and am so glad I did…I loved it!

This book was such a delight. I laughed my way through it (the marathon scene was hysterical – tears rolling down my face funny!), but also enjoyed the poignant moments just as much. I think there was such a great balance of a strong female that’s also just a bit of a mess in some parts of her life. You know what…that’s so real and relatable and I think that’s what made me really appreciate this one. Yes, it’s got some politics involved, but I never felt it became the main focus and I also loved how family played a big part in this one, too.

I’m not sure how this author went from writing a dark thriller to a laugh-out-loud rom-com, but she does it and she does it well. I will hands down be reading anything this gal writes as she is one talented writer! So whether you like the light and sweet reads or the dark and chilling ones, this is one author not to miss!
