My thoughts: It’s no surprise that I would give a new James Patterson series a try and I love that the first book is a BookShots. This is the perfect way to introduce this series – short and incredibly fast and giving us just enough info on our main character to whet our appetites, leaving us wanting more!
I think I am going to like our main character, Detective Harriet “Harry” Blue. She is a dedicated detective yet rough around the edges. She was bounced through the social services agenices as a child along with her brother Sam, and became a cop to try to make up for her bad behavior as a teen.
Because Harriet has been pushed out of the task force that is looking into the worst serial killer Sydney has seen in decades, she is sent to work on another case and is forced to work with the most hated detective on the force. Tox is probably the most insensitive and crass detective I’ve ever come across and yet despite this, Harry and Tox seem to make a pretty good team.
Both Harry and Tox have interesting backgrounds and I am looking forward to digging deeper into both characters as this series progresses. We get a little look into both in this short novella, but it only scratches the surface.
There are some major twists and turns, particularly at the end that make me excited to continue this series and I look forward to seeing just where this series leads us. I’ve always been a Patterson fan, and this latest series just reinforces that!
