Short & Sweet Review: Private Vegas by James Patterson

Title: Private Vegas

Author: James Patterson

Series: Private, #9

Published: January 2015, Little, Brown & Company

Format: Hardcover, 361 pages

Source: Personal copy

Summary:

What happens in Vegas…stays Private.

Las
Vegas is a city of contradictions: seedy and glamorous, secretive and
wild, Vegas attracts people of all kinds–especially those with a secret
to hide, or a life to leave behind. It’s the perfect location for
Lester Olsen’s lucrative business. He gets to treat gorgeous, young
women to five-star restaurants, splashy shows, and limo rides–and then
he teaches them how to kill.

Private Jack Morgan spends most of
his time in Los Angeles, where his top investigation firm has its
headquarters. But a hunt for two criminals leads him to the city of
sin–and to a murder ring that is more seductively threatening than
anything he’s witnessed before. Private Vegas brings James Patterson’s Private series to a sensational new level.

***Short & Sweet Reviews are
short, quick reviews. These will mainly be used for series books where I
have already done full reviews on some of the earlier books or for
books that I feel will suffice with a quick review. These will not be
used for review requests or blog tours.

My thoughts: I’m always happy when a Private novel features Jack and Justine…and once again, Jack’s twin brother Tommy is around. Having the book set on Jack’s home turf just makes a book that much more exciting because it means Jack is there most of the time, which means his character is explored and developed more.

There is quite a lot going on in this book and while at first it takes a few chapters to sort it all out, once you do, it really takes off. I will admit, I end up being more invested in some of the arcs going on that others, particularly those directly involving Jack and Justine, but the others are still somewhat interesting. And in the end, you do want to see what the resolution will be.

As is typical, there are some really awful bad guys here and it’s always great to see them get what they deserve. And with the short chapters, you find yourself frantically flipping through the pages in no time, eager to get to the end where all the pieces come together. I do enjoy this series and can’t wait to pick up the next book!
