Three murders. Three innocent victims. What secrets did they share with their killer?

A
bottle of bubble bath and colourful, plastic boats were scattered in
small puddles on the floor. In the bathtub lay Linda Upton,
fully-clothed, her lips a shade of blue, and her bloodshot eyes wide
open.

When a young mother is found drowned in the bath, clutching
a receipt saying ‘all debts paid’, Detective Robyn Carter knows it’s
just the beginning of a harrowing case. She recognises the signs of a
serial killer, and when a second victim with a receipt is found, her
worst fears are confirmed.

With the local press whipping the
public into a frenzy, Robyn is under pressure to solve the crime
yesterday. But her team can’t find a link between the two bodies, and
the cracks are starting to show.

Just when her leads have dried
up, Robyn discovers an unsettling clue she thinks could unlock the case.
But as she chases across the plush carpets and manicured lawns of the
wealthy elite, honing in on the killer’s shocking motive, one of her own
is put in terrible danger.

The press call him The Leopard for
his stealth, speed and brutality. Can Robyn stop the most twisted killer
of her career before it’s too late?

A heart-pounding,
toe-curling, one-sitting serial killer thriller that will hook you from
the first page till the last. Perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Rachel
Abbott and Karin Slaughter.

My thoughts:This is the second book in Carol Wyer’s DI Robyn Carter series and I am just loving this series! I absolutely devoured the first book in this series, Little Girl Lost, when it was released back in January and have been eagerly awaiting this next installment…and then enjoyed it just as much (I’m just late getting my review written)!

This book kept me on my toes the entire time. The action was non-stop as the bodies piled up, and with so many characters, it was really hard to even make a guess as to who the killer might be. The short chapters only add to the intense pace and suspense, really hooking you into this book, making it almost impossible to want to put it down until you get to the end and find out how it all plays out. It’s twisted and intricately plotted with such dark undertones – and I loved it!!!

I really like Robyn and like that she follows her gut instincts – even when others don’t necessarily agree with her. She definitely has drive and determination and is willing to go to great lengths to solve the cases given to her. Robyn sticks to her convictions at just about any costs, as her back and forth with her “arch-nemesis” DI Tom Shearer show time and time again! I also loved that we get just a little more background on Robyn – I have a feeling that with each book, we will get more and more. She’s a complicated, complex character and there’s a lot to unpack with her…so it’s going to take a while to figure her out!

I liked that we get some chapters told from the POV of the killer. These chapters give us a little insight into the killer’s head and some rational for why they did what they did…very chilling and quite surprising to say the least! But it’s these chapters that add such an interesting dimension to an already great book.

I cannot wait for the next installment in this series to come out…this series is definitely a favorite of mine.
