Audiobook Week 2013: Your Audiobook Year

June is Audiobook Month and Jen at Devourer of Books
is hosting a special week dedicated to audiobooks this week. This is
my third year participating and I can’t wait to see what’s in store all
week!

The first discussion topic for this week is “2012-2013, Your Audiobook
Year.” And the description for this discussion topic is:

Are you new to audiobooks in the last year? Have you been listening
to them forever but discovered something new this year? Favorite titles?
New times/places to listen? This is your chance to introduce yourself
and your general listening experience.

I’ve been listening to audiobooks for about 2 and a half years now and I always have at least 1 going, if not 2 or even 3. I always have one in the car and then I try to have one on my iPod.

Since last year’s Audiobook Week, I’ve listened to 33 audiobooks, 18 of which I’ve listened to this year alone. For the third year, I am participating in the Audiobook Challenge over at Teresa’s Reading Corner and I also started participating in Sound Bytes, a weekly meme that Jen at Devourer of Books does on Fridays. It’s basically a place to link up audio reviews from the week. I can never remember to link my reviews to the challenges, so at least I get some audio books linked for Sound Bytes.

Some of my favorite audiobooks from the past year are:

Still Missing

Author: Chevy Stevens

Narrator: Angela Dawe

The Girl With a Dragon Tattoo

Author: Stieg Larsson

Narrator: Simon Vance

A Hundred Flowers

Author: Gail Tsukiyama
Narrator: Simon Vance

Winter Garden

Author: Kristin Hannah

Narrator: Susan Ericksen

Innocent Traitor (review will be up later this week)

Author: Alison Weir

Narrators: Stina Nielson, Davina Porter, Bianca Amato, Jenny Sterlin, Jill Tanner, Gerard Doyle and Robert Ian Mackenzie

What about you? How was your audiobook year?

I listen to lots of audiobooks 🙂 Have to admit that I am on a 2 to 3 a week. Whyspersync is a huge hit for me –I love being able to pick up the print book where I left on the audio if I have time to read 🙂

That was one that I am so glad I listened to rather than read…once you finish it you'll understand. It is fantastic!!!

Winter Garden is on my request list at my local library. I tend to request everything new and sometimes that doesn't work out too well for me but this one sounds great 🙂

Simon Vance is an awesome narrator. No wonder two of your favorite are narrated by him. I'll see if I can get Winter Garden at my library.

I totally forgot that I listened to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo! I listened to it before I was really keeping track of my audiobooks and the narrators and remember being pleased when I realized it was a Simon Vance title. Great picks!

I had already read it, but wanted a refresher before starting the second book…I really enjoyed it and am thinking that even though I read books 2 and 3, I might go back and listen to those audios as well!

Yes, it is fun seeing everyone's favorites. Yes, I am a Simon Vance fan, but I think those are the only two audios I've listened to that he narrated!

I see your last one has multiple narrators. I think one i listened to had two but that's the most. Do you like the multiple voices?

I didn't mind it. Usually I end up with single narrators, but this is the second or third time I've picked one up with multiple. It takes some getting used to, but is enjoyable.

I loved Innocent Traitor in print. I need to pick that up for a reread because I adore Davina Porter. I also love Simon Vance. His work on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is what really made audiobooks click for me. I listened to the entire series.

I hadn't heard of A Hundred Flowers. I will have to look for it on audio. I've read some of the author's other books and enjoyed them.

Oh I love that the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is narrated by Simon Vance. He became a favorite narrator after I listened to the Dune series, definitely going to add that to my audible wishlist! 🙂

I had problems with Let A Hundred Flowers Bloom in audio because I found it hard to keep the names straight initially. I'm notoriously bad at paying attention to names anyway, and non-Western names in an audiobook gave me issues. I probably wouldn't do well with Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in audio for the same reason, all those Scandinavian names.

I've seen Winter Garden at the library, but now I'm going to check out the audio version – thanks!
