Review: 11th Hour by James Patterson

First line: A good-looking man in his forties sat in the back row of the auditorium at the exclusive Morton Academy of Music.

From the inside cover: Detective Lindsay Boxer is pregnant – and investigating the discovery of severed heads in a movie stars garden.

YOUR BEST FRIEND

Lindsay
Boxer is pregnant at last! But her work doesn’t slow for a second. When
millionaire Chaz Smith is mercilessly gunned down, she discovers that
the murder weapon is linked to the deaths of four of San Francisco’s
most untouchable criminals. And it was taken from her own department’s
evidence locker. Anyone could be the killer–even one of her closest friends.

OR A VICIOUS KILLER?

Lindsay
is called next to the most bizarre crime scene she’s ever seen: two
bodiless heads elaborately displayed on the patio of a world-famous
actor’s home. Five more heads are unearthed in his garden, and Lindsay realizes
that the grounds may hold hundreds of victims.

YOU WON’T KNOW UNTIL THE 11TH HOUR
A
reporter launches a series of vicious articles about the cases and
Lindsay’s personal life is laid bare. But this time she has no one to
turn to–especially not Joe. 11th Hour is the most shocking, most
emotional, and most thrilling Women’s Murder Club novel ever.

My thoughts: Ah…the newest in the Women’s Murder Club by one of my favorite authors, James Patterson. As you can insinuate from the title, this is the 11th in the series and I quite enjoyed it.

In 11th Hour, there are two cases going on at the same time. The first involves a shooter taking out known drug dealers and the second involves unearthed heads at a well-known actor’s home. Lindsay and her partner are on both cases, trying to figure out just what is going on. On top of working both cases, her personal life takes a drastic turn when she tells Joe, her new husband, to get out. Oh, and did I mention that she’s also pregnant?

I love catching up with the Women’s Murder Club. You have Lindsay, the homicide investigator; Claire, the medical examiner; Cindy, the newspaper reporter; and Yuki, the prosecuting attorney. These gals get together to bounce ideas off each other regarding the difficult cases they have going on, most times thinking outside the box in order to come up with some solutions. They each use their own expertise to help solve the crimes.

My only complaint in this one was that it primarily centered in Lindsay and Cindy. There didn’t seem to be too many club meetings. I hope in the next book we see more of Claire and Yuki, as I like these characters just as much as the other two. I’m also excited to see what happens when Lindsay has her baby. Will she slow down, maybe change jobs or will she continue to put herself out there, solving the murders in San Francisco?

Have you read any of the books in this series? Have you read any of James Patterson’s other books or series?

This sounds a bit too scary for me–I'm not much of a crime thriller reader. But I know this author has a multitude of devoted fans!

The books are too scary – they don't give me nightmares or anything. They just keep you on the edge of your seat!

Sadly, I've never read any of his books-had my head stuck in the ground with the genres I always stick to. However!! At nearly 40, I must be growing up, as I suddenly have a desire to branch out(romances have become boring and unrealistic to me)! I was listening to this radio show I try to catch on the weekends (bookreportradio(dot)com), which features a couple of books and author interviews each week, and they spoke about James Patterson and 11th Hour. When I heard how many bestsellers he's had (think it was 63), I figured this was worth trying! So I've started the 1st one, and so far, loving it. Thanks for the great review. Oh, and if you're interested, maybe check out the radio show's site for more ideas-they also list the schedule there.

Since I started blogging a few years ago, I've found that I've branched out into genres I never would have read prior. Hope you enjoy the Patterson books.
