Review: Eight Days to Live by Iris Johansen (audio book)

From the back of the audio case: In eight days they will take her…

It all begins with a painting called Guilt. Eve Duncan’s daughter, Jane, has no idea why she painted the portrait of the chilling face that now hangs in a Paris gallery. But the members of a cult that dates back to the time of Christ know both the face  and the significance behind it. They believe that Jane must die – when the moment is right, and not an instant before she leads them to an ancient treasure whose value and power are beyond price. But for now they target those close to her, killing without mercy or conscience.

Jane’s journey takes her from Paris to Scotland to a cave in the Holy Land, as she fights with all she has to save her life. Even with Eve’s help, can she possibility escape before the clock stops ticking?

Eight Days to Live begins with an ancient conspiracy and a shocking betrayal, but will it end with the death of Eve Duncan and the sacrifice of Jane MacGuire? With Eight Days to Life, #1 New York Times bestselling author Iris Johansen delivers a thriller that will chill you to the core.

Read by: Jennifer Van Dyck

My thoughts: I have really come to love when Jennifer Van Dyck narrates a book – she really seems to nail the different characters, giving each one their own personality in addition to a different voice.

In Eight Days to Live, my only disappointment is that Eve Duncan and her forensic scultping is not at the forefront of the book, which is what originally attracted me to this series. This one is really about her adopted daughter, Jane MacGuire, who finds herself being pursued by a cult because of painting she did based on her dreams. Someone wants that painting at any cost and wants Jane to die for painting it. Filled with suspense and a cast of familiar characters, Eight Days to Live takes us on quite a ride. Leaning on her friends – Eve, Joe, MacDuff, Jock, and Caleb – she has eight days before she is the guest of honor at a sacrificial offering. This was a thrilling and chilling story, and more than a bit frightening in some parts.

I am now hooked on listening to the rest of this series as long as they are narrated by Jennifer Van Dyck!
