First line: Some instinct – or maybe just a stir of a breeze – awakened Steven Creed; he sat up in bed, took a fraction of a moment to orient himself to unfamiliar surroundings.
Why I read it: I was asked to review Creed’s Honor, which is the second in Linda Lael Miller’s Creed Cowboy’s trilogy. As you might know, I don’t like picking up a book that’s in the middle of a series, so I had to read this one first.
From the back cover: When single attorney Steven Creed becomes guardian of an orphaned five-year-old boy, he trades his big-city law firm for a ranch near his McKettrick kin in the close-knit community of Stone Creek, Arizona. Taking care of little Matt and fixing up his run-down ranch house with its old barn loosens something tightly wound inside him. But when Steven takes on the pro bono defense of a local teen, he meets his match in the opposing counsel – beautiful, by-the-book county prosecutor Melissa O’Ballivan. My thoughts: This is the first book by Linda Lael Miller that I’ve read and I really enjoyed it. Even though I haven’t read any of the author’s previous series – the McKettrick’s of Texas, the McKettricks series, the Montana Creed series, or the Stone Creek series, I felt right at home with these characters and the story line. When Defense Attorney Steven Creed relocates to Stone Creek with his newly adopted son, Matt, he meets Prosecutor Melissa O’Ballivan. Instant sparks fly and the two find themselves crossing paths quite often. Dealing with locals, parades and opposing sides of a case bring out the best and worst of each of them, but will they be able to overcome their own personal issues and love each other? There are many different characters in this book, each with their own personality which adds to the storyline. We also get to briefly meet Steven’s twin cousins – the author teases us with a glimpse into their stories without telling too much, setting up the rest of this trilogy. I look forward to reading the rest of this series and possibly finding time to read her earlier series as well!

The 2nd book is even better but it is 3rd in the trilogy that I am really looking forward too 🙂
