Virtual Book Tour, Review and Giveaway: Stilettos & Scoundrels by Laina Turner Molaski (GIVEAWAY CLOSED)

First line: What was I thinking?

From the back cover: Presley Thurman, a sassy, thirty-something red-head, lover of shopping and Starbucks had just been fired so she decided to follow her dream. With her feisty nature and a spirit to not “sweat the small stuff,” she was ready to tackle any challenge (even if she had no idea how she would pay the bills). However, the new job turned into murder – in her home town! Presley was excited – she hadn’t seen so much buzz since the spring sample sale at Saks.

Presley was able to discover the Senator’s wife, Helen, had been having an affair…with her best friend’s boyfriend! Did Helen kill the Senator? Or was it the Senator’s love of gambling that got him killed? And what was Cooper’s secret tie to the mob boss Garrison Palazzo? But could she find the killer and write her story while resisting the good looks and charm of old flame Cooper.

Presley was betting her favorite pair of Manolo’s she will find the killer…but will time run out!

My thoughts: This was a fun, quick read, with a little suspense and romance thrown in. After being fired from her job, Presley Thurman decides the time is right to follow her dream of becoming a writer. The only problem is that the story she’s been given to cover is in her hometown – a place she rarely visits. But with this new job on the line, she heads back to face her parents and some disconnected friends – all so she can interview Senator Daniels, who ends up dead. Now her once sleepy little town is in a frenzy trying to deal with the murder and secrets keep popping up all over. Curious by nature, Presley is determined to get to the bottom of the murder, intent on being the one with the big story. Deterred from snooping around, Presley ignores all and continues looking into things. As this is the first in a potentially new series, we are introduced to quite a lot of characters – her friends from high school Katy, Brian, Cooper, and Dirt, her parents, and some fellow co-workers from her old job. The interactions between Presley and her mother were hilarious and her father was just as funny with the way he dealt with both of them. I enjoyed getting to know Presley and loved her fashion-minded personality. The interactions between Presley and Cooper, an old flame from high school, were fun and just a little bit steamy – do they end up together or not?  The sneak peak at the end of Stilettos & Scoundrels of Presley’s next book leaves me hopeful there will be lots more Presley to come – hopefully all with great covers, too!
