Summary:

New York Times bestselling author Clare Mackintosh is back with another unputdownable installment in the DC Morgan series.

You want what they have, but what price would you pay?

The Hill is the kind of place everyone wants to live: luxurious, exclusive and safe. But now someone is breaking and entering these Cheshire homes one by one, and DS Leo Brady suspects the burglar is looking for something, or someone, in particular.

Over the border in Wales, DC Ffion Morgan recovers the body of an estate agent from the lake. There’s no love lost between Ffion and estate agents, but who hated this one enough to want her dead – and why?

As their cases collide, Ffion and Leo discover people will pay a high price to keep their secrets behind closed doors . . .

My thoughts:

This is the latest installment in the DC Morgan series and I think it just might be my favorite book to date. I love being back with Ffion, Leo and Dave the dog. ⁣

While this particular installment contains some darker themes, I loved how it also balances humor and levity at just the right moment. While this can absolutely be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend reading the series in order to really appreciate the characters and their continued development, especially as it pertains to Ffion and her relationship with estate agents. It’s little details like this that really make this series stand out. ⁣

I love the characters that Mackintosh creates, even the ones that irritate us. They are all so real and relatable. And the use of multimedia elements throughout the book adds another layer to an already engaging story. ⁣

This book was filled with plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing all the way through. What starts as three separate cases eventually intertwine and I found I could not put this down until I reached the conclusion and speaking of…that ending left me needing the next book ASAP! ⁣

Audio thoughts:

I loved that there were three narrators for this. Chloe Angharad Davies, Joe Eyre and Penelope Rawlins all did a fantastic job bringing this story to life, helping to make this quite the dynamic listening experience.⁣

Books in this series:

  1. The Last Party
  2. A Game of Lies
  3. Other People’s Houses
