September’s theme for #ReadChristie2026 is Best According to Agatha and I went with the official pick, Endless Night.
When I saw that this was a favorite of Agatha Christie’s, I knew I had to read it…and I’m so glad I did! While it’s not going to top my all-time favorite of hers – that still goes to And Then There Were None – it is definitely very close. And what I love most is that it is so different from her other books. This is not your typical detective story in any way, but rather a true psychological suspense novel, filled with gothic elements that actually make it a perfect read for #SpookySeason! There is such a darkness to this story and the atmosphere is quite sinister. One thing to note though, Christie certainly takes her time setting everything up – this is in no way a fast paced story. Rather, the suspense builds slowly and the tension simmers but I think the payoff is worth it. That ending was sheer brilliance!
