My thoughts:
I have been a fan of Lisa Gardner for a long time, loving all her series. This is a stand-alone and I was very excited to see how it would stack up to her series…and it absolutely delivers in every way possible.
Completely atmospheric right from the get-go, this book grabbed me and never let go. It’s haunting, claustrophobic at times, and expertly weaves a cold case with a present-day horror that leaves you unsettled at best and unable to walk away until you reach the conclusion.
This is Lisa Gardner at her best, balancing a police procedural with a crime/psychological thriller and infusing that with enough extras that you are completely invested. I loved the historical lore woven in, the small-town setting and how everyone knows everyone but still secrets are there, waiting to be uncovered. I was glued to this as all the pieces started coming together.
Audio thoughts:
Hillary Huber does a fantastic job with this narration, including the unknown narrator. She is one of favorite narrators and never disappoints…and she outdid herself here. The pacing, the tone, the pitch – perfection!!
Bottom line:
This is out tomorrow and I highly recommend picking it up…either in print or audio, you cannot go wrong!
