I borrowed the audiobook from the library.

Summary:

Henry Meloux, Cork’s friend and spiritual advisor, asks the Minnesota sheriff turned private investigator to find Henry’s long-lost son. Cork tracks the man to the Canadian town of Thunder Bay, Ontario, where it turns out he’s a prominent (if reclusive) industrialist. When someone tries to kill Henry, and the evidence points to his son, Cork digs deep into his old friend’s personal history, where he uncovers truths that might be best left buried.

My thoughts:

The sixth book in the Cork O’Connor series and I loved that it had a bit of a different spin on it. This is Henry Meloux’s story and because Henry, who has always been old, as long as Cork has known him, is experiencing some health issues, he has tasked Cork with finding the son he never met.

I loved that before Cork even gets going on his adventure to find this long-lost son, we flashback to Henry’s early days to learn about his backstory and how he even came to become a spiritual advisor and why he has never met this son that he only knows exists through his visions. Henry has always been a favorite character and I loved learning more about him.

Cork has quite the journey in finding Henry’s son – it takes him to Thunder Bay, Ontario and is not without danger. And of course, it wouldn’t be a WKK book without some personal conflict happening as well. Cork has to balance this journey knowing there is some family drama going on at the homefront and that takes a toll on him, too.

I know I’ve said it before and I will say it again…the way WKK is able to keep the story balanced between action and character development is what keeps me fully invested. Each book pulls me in deeper and deeper!

Audio thoughts:

I was thrilled to see David Chandler was narrating this one – he has so far narrated the whole series and I hope he continues. He just gets the characters and all their nuances.
