Summary:

A scream shatters the silence…
Courtney Gray’s peaceful vacation turns into a nightmare when she discovers her brother and sister-in-law dead in their lakeside cottage. Her niece Reese is missing. Her nephew Wyatt is asleep upstairs—unharmed.

A town full of secrets…
As police swarm the quiet resort, dark truths about Courtney’s family—and the town itself—begin to surface. Is Reese a victim… or the killer?

A truth no one saw coming…
With everyone hiding something, Courtney races to uncover the terrible mystery. But the closer she gets, the harder it is to know who—or what—to trust.

My thoughts:

It’s no secret that I am a HUGE fan of Mary Kubica…I still remember meeting her back when her debut novel, The Good Girl, came out. She crafts such addicting, binge-worthy thrillers and this latest one is no exception! Talk about a banger…I could not put this one down once I started it and managed to finish it on one sitting!!⁣

This one starts with a bang and never lets up. I loved how it immediately put me on edge, questioning everyone. Not only is there suspense and drama here, but there is also a deeply emotional element here that really shocked me. I wasn’t expecting it and as much as I loved the twists and turns this one took, it also gutted me at times. ⁣

Having the story alternate between the two POCs, with one in the present and one in the past allows you to try to put the pieces together but don’t be fooled…this one takes turns you won’t be expecting but absolutely delivers in every way! ⁣

Audio thoughts:

This is narrated by a full cast, with some of favorites in the mix. Jennifer Jill Araya, Brittany Pressley and Gary Tiedemann do an amazing job bringing this story to life, making each POV feel distinct. ⁣

Bottom line:

Whether you pick this up in print or audio, it is not to be missed. Mary Kubica has outdone herself here, making this my new favorite of her books — and that’s saying something as almost all of them have been 5 star reads!!⁣
