Mini Reviews – Two Eddie Flynn Books #bookreviews #audiobooks #series

I purchased these books for my own collection. I borrowed the audiobooks from the library.

I have a new obsession…Eddie Flynn! And I’m devouring this series…and loving it!!! And yes, I’m well aware that you do not need to read these books in order, I do…it’s just how I prefer to read series. ⁣

So, who is Eddie Flynn? He’s an ex-con turned lawyer who surprises you at every turn, doing whatever it takes to keep those he loves and/or is tasked to help safe. I cannot get enough of him!!! ⁣

THE DEFENSE by Steve Cavanagh

Published: September 1, 2023, Headline (first published January 2015)

Summary:

The truth has no place in a courtroom. The truth doesn’t matter in a trial.

The only thing that matters is what the prosecution can prove.

Eddie Flynn used to be a con artist. Then he became a lawyer. Turned out the two weren’t that different.

It’s been over a year since Eddie vowed never to set foot in a courtroom again. But now he doesn’t have a choice. Olek Volchek, the infamous head of the Russian mafia in New York, has strapped a bomb to Eddie’s back and kidnapped his ten-year-old daughter Amy.

Eddie only has 48 hours to defend Volchek in an impossible murder trial – and win – if wants to save his daughter.

Under the scrutiny of the media and the FBI, Eddie must use his razor-sharp wit and every con-artist trick in the book to defend his ‘client’ and ensure Amy’s safety. With the timer on his back ticking away, can Eddie convince the jury of the impossible?

Lose this case and he loses everything.

My thoughts:

This book grabbed me from the get-go and never let up. I love a good legal thriller, but this one is something else. The twists and turns it takes kept me guessing all the way through, and I loved how you just never know what to expect next. I also appreciated that we get a fair bit of Eddie’s backstory here on this first book! ⁣

Audio thoughts:

I decided to listen to this one and love the narrator. Adam Sims is a new-to-me narrator, and I think he does a great job bringing Eddie Flynn to life as a character!

THE PLEA by Steve Cavanagh

Published: November 27. 2018, Flatiron Books (first published January 2015)

Summary:

An innocent client. A wife in jeopardy. A locked room mystery. Who will take The Plea?

Billionaire David Child swears he didn’t murder his girlfriend, Clara. But the evidence overwhelmingly shows that David killed her: the security video showed no one else entering their apartment, the murder weapon was in his car, and he was covered in gunshot residue he can’t explain.

The FBI believes David’s arrest and obvious guiltc ould help them take down a huge money laundering scheme – if they can get him to testify.

Con-artist-turned-lawyer Eddie Flynn is given the job: persuade David to plead guilty and give the agents the evidence they need. If Eddie can’t get David to take a plea bargain, the FBI has incriminating files on Eddie’s wife – and will send her to jail. But David insists that he didn’t murder anyone.

As the FBI pressures Eddie to secure the guilty plea, Eddie becomes increasingly convinced that David is telling the truth. With adversaries threatening, Eddie has to find a way to prove David’s innocence and find out if there’s any way he might have been framed. But the stakes are high: Eddie’s wife is in danger. And not just from the FBI…

My thoughts:

Another action-packed story, filled with more twists than I could have imagined. The situations Eddie finds himself in make me wonder how he manages to stay alive! ⁣

Audio thoughts:

I love that Adam Sims is back narrating this one. He does such a great job with Eddie Flynn’s character, really making him larger than life! And his consistency from book to book was great!
