The Ice Child by Camilla Lackberg #bookreview #series

I purchased this book for my own personal collection.

Publisher: Harper Collins

Published: March 10, 2016

Summary:

SEE NO EVIL
It’s January in the peaceful seaside resort of Fjällbacka. A semi-naked girl wanders through the woods in freezing cold weather. When she finally reaches the road, a car comes out of nowhere. It doesn’t manage to stop.

HEAR NO EVIL
The victim, a girl who went missing four months ago, has been subjected to unimaginably brutal treatment – and Detective Patrik Hedström suspects this is just the start.

SPEAK NO EVIL
The police soon discover that three other girls are missing from nearby towns, but there are no fresh leads. And when Patrik’s wife stumbles across a link to an old murder case, the detective is forced to see his investigation in a whole new light.

My thoughts:

This is the 9th book in Camilla Lackberg’s Fjallbacka/Patrik Hedstrom series, and I am determined to finish up this series this year. I had been listening to the books but they stopped being available on audio after book 7. So, since I had the print copies of the rest of the series, I just gave in and started reading them in print.

I really like this series, even though it is quite dark, but that is due to its NordicNoir roots. And of course, it is completely atmospheric, which I love. These books always make me want to go to Sweden, which has been on my bucket list.

This book starts off with quite an intense opening and takes off from there. I love how the author was able to combine a current case, that of the missing girls, with a cold case. It really kept me wondering how it was going to all tie together because you know all the multiple threads eventually merge at some point. And then there were the flashbacks which added another layer of suspense and kept me on my toes. I had so many theories going on as to what had happened but never did I imagine how it would all play out. This one manages to surprise and shock us all the way up to the very end!

This was another intricately plotted, complex story that is quite chilling at times. I cannot wait to pick up the next book and am hoping that by the time I read that one, the newest book will have been translated into English and I can get a copy.
