Month in Review: February 2024

Well, here we are again! Even with the extra day, February seemed to go by in a snap…but at least it was a month filled with some great reads and I cannot complain about that! I’m still behind in my reviews as I was out of town a few times, but I’m hoping this month is a little quieter and I can catch up…we’ll see how that plays out.

March is an incredible month for publishing and I am swimming in books here. I finally had to prioritize which ones I really wanted to read so as to not go nuts…I’ll share that post next and you can see what I’ll be focusing on. Of course, that’s just new releases and I also plan on squeezing in a few backlist books and some of my own as well.

MY TOP 5 OF FEBRUARY:

***I did this last year and am going to continue it again this year, with a few modifications.

  1. Favorite book(s) of February – these books are the ones I absolutely loved and will be recommending to everyone. They will be staying on my shelf and might even be rereads at some point in the future.
    • The Turtle House
    • The Mountain King
    • The Winners
    • What Happened to Nina?
    • The Women
  2. Biggest Surprise of February: How much I truly loved The Beartown trilogy…I know I probably mentioned it here already, but these books are amazing! I will be recommending them to everyone and cannot believe I waited so long to read them! I know I will be reading them again and am so glad I own copies to have on my shelf.
  3. Newly Acquired Books I’m Super Excited About: This month I received quite a few books I cannot wait to read:
    • Middletide by Sarah Crouch, out June 11
    • Jackie by Dawn Tripp, out June 18
    • The Love Elixir of Augusta Stern by Lynda Cohen Loigman, out October 8
  4. Favorite Part of Month – Going to see Kristin Hannah on tour in NYC and hearing her talk all about her book, The Women. I knew this was going to be a favorite, I just didn’t know how much I would love it…and hearing her talk about the book put me in the right headspace for the book. It’s a tough read, but such an important book.
  5. 5 Books I’m most looking forward to reading next month:
    • Listen to the Lie by Amy Tintera – This debut is already getting rave reviews and I cannot wait to start it! Out March 5th.
    • Black Wolf by  Juan Gomez-Juardo– This is the second book in the Red Queen Trilogy. I loved the first book and have high hopes for this one! Out March 12th.
    • Becoming Madam Secretary by Stephanie Drey – I love Stephanie Drey’s historical fiction and this one is about Frances Perkins and her partnership with FDR.  Out March 12th.
    • The Princess of Las Vegas by Chris Bohjalian– A book having to do with Princess Diana – even if it’s about an impersonator…I’m definitely reading it! Out March 19th.
    • A Great Country by Shilpi Somaya Gowda– This domestic thriller explores themes of immigration, generational conflict, social class and privilege – it sounds like a powerful read and I cannot wait to start it! Out March 26th.

So tell me, what was your favorite read of the month? What are you looking forward to reading in the next month?
