Summary:

It’s New Year’s Eve, and the stage is set for a lavish party in one of Edinburgh’s best postcodes. It’s a moment for old friends to set the past to rights – and move on. And yet, the celebration fails to materialize.

Because someone at this party is going to die.

Midnight approaches and the countdown begins…and it seems one of the guests doesn’t want a resolution.

They want revenge.

But there are many present at the party who might have reasons for seeking revenge, and just as many who have spent their lives trying to outrun it. So who is the killer, and who is the victim?

Perfect for fans of Gillian Flynn and Lucy Foley, It Ends at Midnight will haunt readers long after its stunning finale as it questions what we are willing to say – and believe – to ensure our own peace of mind.

My thoughts:

I first became a fan of Harriet Tyce when I read her debut novel, Blood Orange. This is now the third book I’ve read of hers and once again she has proven why I love her books – they are so smartly written and completely addicting!

This one pulled me in from the get-go and I loved that there was a sense of the unknown throughout. We learn right off the bat there are two dead bodies, but we don’t know who they are until the end. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite tropes because even if I figure out some of the twists along the way, you still need to figure out who is dead and why.

I’m always a fan of a good revenge plot and this one really kept me guessing as to how it would play out. Diving into toxic friendships, guilt, lies and secrets, I didn’t know which way was up or who I could trust at any time and that just kept me totally engaged and invested in what was going on. Even when I thought I had figured things out, a new twist pop up to throw me for a loop, which only engaged me further.

A tense read for sure, this is definitely worth picking up if you haven’t read it yet.

Audi0 thoughts:

This was great on audio with three narrators – George Weightman, Lucy Paterson and Samara MacLaren – who do a phenomenal job bringing the story to life. They each did their best voicing a level of unreliability for the characters, which added to the overall mystery. It was so good!
