I purchased this book for my own personal collection.

Summary:

A shocking thriller about a cold case, a fictional true crime series, and the family caught in the middle.

SIX EPISODES. ONE KILLER.

It was a case that gripped the nation. In December 2003, Luke Ryder, the stepfather of acclaimed filmmaker Guy Howard (then aged 10), was found dead in the garden of their suburban family home.

Luke Ryder’s murder has never been solved. Guy Howard’s mother and two half-sisters were in the house at the time of the murder–but all swear they saw nothing. Despite a high-profile police investigation and endless media attention, no suspect was ever charged.

But some murder cases are simply too big to forget…

Now comes the sensational new Netflix series Infamous, dedicated to investigating–and perhaps cracking–this famous cold case. The production team will re-examine testimony, re-interview witnesses, and once again scour the evidence. The family will speak. The key players will be reunited–on camera. The truth will come out.

Are you ready to see it?

My thoughts:

This is the first book I’ve read by Cara Hunter, and from what I understand, it’s her first stand-alone book, and what a clever little book it was! In a market that is saturated with good books, it’s hard to stand out but Cara Hunter has certainly made her mark.

I love a good whodunnit, especially for a cold case, and when you add in this unique format – set up as a fictional true crime series, it just kept me glued to the pages. There were also newspaper articles and text messages included throughout and I found this to really enhance the story. It made for such a dynamic read and even more exciting is that it seemed that everything was happening in real time. The case was actually being reopened and new clues were coming to light as the documentary was being filmed.

This story was full of twists and turns that kept my head spinning. Just when I felt I had my finger on where it was heading, a new bombshell would be revealed, and I was left stumped. It really was so clever and kept me guessing all the way through.

Given the way this story is written, it is easily a binge-worthy read. It’s one though that you do need to pay attention to because there are times things are subtly revealed and you might just miss it if you read too fast. I really enjoyed this one and now I’m quite eager to check out Cara’s series.
