Summary:

Amber Patterson is fed up. She’s tired of being a nobody: a plain, invisible woman who blends into the background. She deserves more – a life of money and power like the one blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess Daphne Parrish takes for granted.

To everyone in the exclusive town of Bishops Harbor, Connecticut, Daphne – a socialite and philanthropist – and her real-estate mogul husband, Jackson, are a couple straight out of a fairy tale.

Amber’s envy could eat her alive…if she didn’t have a plan. Amber uses Daphne’s compassion and caring to insinuate herself into the family’s life – the first step in a meticulous scheme to undermine her. Before long Amber is Daphne’s closest confidante, traveling to Europe with the Parrishes and their lovely young daughters and growing closer to Jackson. But a skeleton from her past may undermine everything that Amber has worked toward, and if it is discovered, her well-laid plan may fall to pieces.

With shocking turns and dark secrets that will keep you guessing until the very end, The Last Mrs. Parrish is a fresh, juicy, and utterly addictive thriller from a diabolically imaginative talent.

My thoughts:

I read this when it first came out and absolutely loved it! I was thrilled my when IRL bookclub picked it for last month’s book club meeting…I couldn’t wait to see what they would think and I was kind of excited to see how well it would hold up reading it a second time. Well, let me just say…we all loved it and I think I might have enjoyed it even more on this second time!

We had such a great time unpacking this one, digging into the juicy drama that ensues and how the story is told. I still love the way this one played out and love that underlying messages this book has – that the grass isn’t always greener and that you should really be careful for what you wish for!

I’m so glad I had the opportunity to read this one again, especially as the authors just finished writing the sequel to this book! You know I am all over that and am counting down the day til I can get my hands on it! In the meantime, if you somehow have not read this one, now is definitely the time to do so!!!

Audio thoughts:

I decided to listen to the book this time around and I found it to be so well done! It’s narrated by two new-to-me narrators – Suzanne Elise Freeman and Meghan Wolf – and I thought they did such a great job bringing this story to life. They really nailed the personalities of the characters and I had fun listening to this story.
