Summary:

What could be worse than your ex-boyfriend marrying your childhood best friend? Getting accused of her murder…

From the author of My Sweet Girl comes a dangerously addictive new thriller about a lavish Sri Lankan wedding celebration that not everyone will survive.

When Amaya is invited to Kaavi’s over-the-top wedding in Sri Lanka, she is surprised and a little hurt to hear from her former best friend after so many years of radio silence. But when Amaya learns that the groom is her very own ex-boyfriend, she is consumed by a single thought: She must stop the wedding from happening, no matter the cost.

But as the weeklong wedding celebrations begin and rumors about Amaya’s past begin to swirl, she can’t help but feel like she also has a target on her back. When Kaavi goes missing and is presumed dead, all evidence points to Amaya.

However, nothing is as it seems as Jayatissa expertly unravels that each wedding guest has their own dark secret and agenda, and Amaya may not be the only one with a plan to keep the bride from getting her happily ever after…

My thoughts:

I absolutely loved Amanda Jayatissa’s debut novel, My Sweet Girl, so it was a no brainer that I would read her sophomore book. I just loved the sound of it…and it immediately became one of my most anticipated reads for this month – and I’m so happy to say that it totally delivered! Amanda Jayatissa is definitely going down as a must-read author for me!

Locked-room mysteries are one of my favorite tropes when it comes to this genre and this one kept me guessing all the way through. Let’s just say things are definitely not what they appear to be, and this book takes quite a few twists and turns that I did not see coming. Between the drama and intrigue of the friendship between Amaya and Kaavi, and the Sri Lankan culture that the author infuses into the story, I was hooked! It’s best to go into this one as blind as possible, so I’m not going to give too much away – just know that this one is definitely a binge-worthy type of read and I loved every second of it!

I loved that I really didn’t know which way this story was heading. We have an unreliable narrator and I loved how the story was structured with the investigation interviews interspersed throughout – it added such a nice layer to an already complicated story, where just about every character has their fair share of secrets.

The writing here is perfection and I cannot wait to see what comes next from this uber talented author. Definitely add this to your summer reading list if it is not already on it…it’s fast-paced, thrilling and sure to keep you flipping those pages!
