Summary:

From the Queen of Mystery—this all-new collection of stories about love gone horribly wrong will get your heart racing.

Love can propel us to our greatest heights . . . and darkest depths. In this new collection of Agatha Christie short stories, witness the dark side of love—crimes of passion, games of the heart, and deadly affairs. This pulse-pounding compendium features beloved detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple, master of charades Parker Pyne, the enigmatic Harley Quin, and the adventurous Tommy and Tuppence, all on the ready to solve a tantalizing mystery.

In “The Face of Helen,” a night at the Royal Opera could reach a deadly crescendo for a woman caught in a dicey love triangle; “Finessing the King” delivers a curious ad in the personals that could mask sinister intentions; who’s in danger of getting stung in “Wasp’s Nest” depends on rounding up suspects and solving a murder—before it even happens; and more tales that make for essential reading that Christie fans old and new will simply love to death.

My thoughts:

I have really come to love reading short stories over the past few years, so of course when I saw this new collection of short stories by Agatha Christie, I had to have it. Still relatively new to her books, I loved that it not only involved stories featuring Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot, who I’m familiar with, but also Parker Payne, Harley Quinn and Tommy and Tuppence, who I’m still getting to know. And I loved that the recurring theme in all these stories was love – crimes of passion on the darker side!

What I loved most about this is that it has left me wanting more…and as I am currently participating in the #ReadChristie2022 challenge that is exposing me to all different Christie books, I am definitely reading more Christie and loving it. Reading these short stories was like getting a little nibble of her different writings and I am so eager to eventually read everything she has ever written. Luckily my husband is also a fan, so between his collection of her books and the ones I have started amassing, I should be good to go.

Haven’t read anything by Christie? This is a great book to start with as it gives such a good feel for her different characters and who doesn’t love stories about crimes of passion with Christie’s signature wit thrown in? I really enjoyed this and am so glad to have a copy to add to my collection!

I recently re-watched the Poirot TV series and I would love to revisit her books and try those I’ve not yet gotten too. They’re just such great comfort reads!
