Summary:

When the four partners of a prominent law firm are killed in a mysterious plane crash, their widows must come together to uncover the truth in this explosive, edge-of-your-seat novel.

It’s 1985 in Providence, Rhode Island, and the four partners of a prominent, mafia-affiliated law firm have been killed in a private jet that went down outside New York City. Four very different women have just lost the loves of their lives: Justine, a former fashion model adjusting to suburban life; Camille, a beautiful, young second wife some suspect is a gold digger; Krystle, committed to leaving the firm to her sons after her husband worked his whole life to support them all; and Meredith, a stripper at the local club who was in a secret relationship with the firm’s sole female partner. While the crash is initially ruled a tragic accident, something’s not adding up: The team wasn’t supposed to be in New York that day, and it’s soon revealed that there was a very large sum of cash that burned up with the plane. The women find themselves thrown together in search of the truth, with new danger and threats unfolding at every turn.

Could a dissatisfied client be seeking revenge? Or were the partners involved in something bigger—something dangerous and deadly? What other secrets were the partners keeping, and how far might people go to ensure they stay hidden? The widows must find the answers in order to protect their inheritance, their families, and their lives.

My thoughts:

It’s no secret that I am a huge audiobook fan and I happen to also love when authors collaborate on books, so when one of these authors reached out to me about this new endeavor, I was thrilled. And let me just say what a fun, thrilling story it is.

This story grabbed me from the beginning and I found myself completely captivated. I loved the four women, who weren’t really friends at the onset of the book but end up spending quite a bit of time together as they start investigating what really led to the deaths of the four partners. The women each had such unique, distinct personalities and I loved getting to know them…my favorite being Krystle.

I loved that the story is a good mix of a murder mystery and some good old soap opera-like drama, almost like Desperate Housewives. It kept the story interesting for sure, and when you add in the 1980s vibes and some mob action, I was all in!

I really enjoyed this one and would love to see these gals collaborate on another book – their writing is so seamless. Definitely pick this one up if you enjoy entertaining audiobooks…it’s exclusively on Audible right now and if you are a member, it’s free!

Audio thoughts:

This was such a fun book to listen to and I think it was such a smart choice to go with four different narrators. Each of the four – Dina Pearlman, Karissa Vacker, Helen Laser and Ariel Blake – did a fantastic job with their characters, really bringing this book to life. Their accents and intonation were perfect and I could not put this audiobook down. I was completely engaged in this story and just loved everything about it.

Yay! Happy to hear that! Now if only we could get a sequel, right?
