Summary:

For a private investigator on the trail of a missing girl, every second counts in a gripping thriller by New York Times bestselling author T.R. Ragan.

On her first day of kindergarten, five-year-old Tinsley disappeared without a trace…

Five agonizing years later, her divorced mother, Dani Callahan, is a private investigator. She and Quinn Sullivan, a promising young assistant determined to prove herself, are devoted to helping others find missing loved ones. And for Dani, finding Tinsley is still a never-ending obsession.

Their newest case is Ali Cross, a teenager who vanished off a Sacramento street while walking home. A troubled boy’s eyewitness testimony to Ali’s abduction provides their only clues. And as their search for Ali gets underway, new information about Tinsley’s disappearance begins to surface too.

As their investigations lead down two twisting paths, disturbing secrets are revealed and new victims find themselves in mortal danger. Time is running out, and the hunt is only getting grimmer.

My thoughts:

I’ve read a few books by T.R. Ragan in the past and really enjoyed them so when I saw she had a new one coming out, I of course had to grab it. I love that her books tend to develop into series and we all know how I love my series!

This latest book involves a private investigator who has her own demons – her own child was kidnapped. I love when our main protagonists have those kinds of personal motivations that drive them. It makes finding other missing children that much more personal because we all know they harbor thoughts that there is always that hope their own child will one day be found.

This book kept me captivated from start to finish. Not only did I love Dani’s character, but I also love her assistant’s character, Quinn. I thought the two balanced each other out quite well. The case they are working on now is a case the cops have all but written off, yet it seems it just might have connections to her own daughter’s case and that of course drives Dani to keep working, yet it also finds her in danger as she uncovers more than she bargained.

I loved the twists and turns this book took and while I did have my guesses, I was quite surprised by the ending. I’m not sure if this is the start of a new series or if this is just a one-off, but I enjoyed it either way and will definitely be eager to see what comes next from the author.

Audio thoughts:

I have found that T.R. Ragan’s books translate really well onto audio and this latest one was no exception. The narrator, Karen Peakes, does a fantastic job bringing the story to life and giving each character their own unique voice. Her pacing and intonation is spot on and she infuses just the right amount of tension and emotion into her voice as needed.

I read a review on audible that says this was a true story but have not found any information to back that review up. So, can you tell me if this book is based on a true story?

    Thank you

I didn’t see that and I don’t know. I looked on the author’s website quickly and didn’t see anything. Perhaps you could send her a message asking?
