Summary:

From the best-selling author of The Secrets of Us and The Best of Friends comes a novella of deceit, desperation, and how one little mistake can unravel a life.

When overwhelmed stay-at-home mom Alexis finds herself at odds with her husband after she’s charged with a DUI, she is given one chance to get her family back: complete AA and admit her faults. The problem is, she’s never had a drinking problem and has no idea what caused the blackout that led to her arrest. Still, she’s committed to working through the program, if that’s what it takes to be reunited with her two young children. But when she connects with a new friend, Farrah—a confident, successful powerhouse of a woman Alexis can’t help but idolize—she’s empowered to take a closer look at her husband’s role in her downfall. What she finds shocks her to her core, quickly spiraling into something more sinister than she ever imagined.

My thoughts:

Lucina Berry is a new-to-me author but one that I have been meaning to read, so when I saw this Audible Original Story I just knew I had to give it a go…and I’m so glad I did. Now I’m very eager to read her full-length books!

This little novella was quite the twisty, engaging read and despite it’s short length, it still managed to keep me guessing all the way through. I thought I maybe had an idea of where this one was headed only to be completely blindsided…and I loved that! This turned out not be what I expected in the best way and I’m so glad I picked this one up.

For a short novel, this really felt like a complete story and now I’m very excited to see what an actual full-length book is like. I do have one on hand – the audio of The Secrets of Us – so hopefully I can get to that sooner rather than later.

I really love these Audible Original Stories…they are the perfect length to pick up in between books and that’s exactly what I did. Have you tried one yet?

Audio thoughts:

This was narrated by Brittany Pressley and she really did a fantastic job. Her pacing and intonation was spot on and she did a great job with giving each character their own unique voices. I really enjoyed this one and would love to see her as the narrator for other Lucinda Berry books!
