Summary:

From “master of clever misdirection” (Kirkus Reviews) Aimee Molloy, author of the New York Times best seller The Perfect Mother,
comes an irresistible psychological thriller featuring a newly married
woman whose life is turned upside-down when her husband goes missing.

Newlyweds
Sam Statler and Annie Potter are head over heels, and excited to say
goodbye to New York city and start a life together in Sam’s sleepy
hometown upstate. Or, it turns out, a life where Annie spends most of
her time alone while Sam, her therapist husband, works long hours in his
downstairs office, tending to the egos of his (mostly female)
clientele.

Little does Sam know that through a vent in his
ceiling, every word of his sessions can be heard from the room upstairs.
The pharmacist’s wife, contemplating a divorce. The well-known painter
whose boyfriend doesn’t satisfy her in bed. Who could resist listening?
Everything is fine until the French girl in the green mini Cooper shows
up, and Sam decides to go to work and not come home, throwing a wrench
into Sam and Annie’s happily ever after.

Showcasing Molloy’s deft ability to subvert norms and culminating in the kind of stunning twist that is becoming her trademark, Goodnight Beautiful is a thrilling tale of domestic suspense that not only questions assumptions but defies expectations.

My thoughts: This is the first book I’ve read by Aimee Molloy and what a crazy ride it was! I have one of her other books, The Perfect Mother, sitting in my audioshelf, just waiting for me to get to it, and after finishing this one, I will definitely be moving it up in priority.

I love a good psychological thriller and boy was this ever one. The build-up of this one was insane – I totally thought this was headed one way and could not have been more wrong! It totally floored me and I loved it! It is creepy as all get-out and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Nothing is as it seems in this book and that is what makes this one so good.

This book is so addicting and fast-paced, and will keep you guessing the entire book, not only about what is going on, but also about the characters themselves. Ever so slowly things are revealed and as they are…just WOW! It is definitely not what you are expecting and I cannot tell you how many times I was caught off-guard.

This is the type of book that when you finish it, you seriously contemplate starting over at the beginning because you cannot believe what all just happened. I was totally captivated by this story and ended up finishing it in a day, and know that I will definitely be revisiting this one again.

Audio thoughts: This audio was great! The different narrators really did a fabulous job with this one and I found myself completely captivated. All the narrators were new to me and that is always fun but I thought they all did such a fantastic job with the pacing and intonation and really made this a fantastic audio.
