Summary:

A high-stakes, pulse-pounding thriller from the bestselling author of Girl Last Seen.

A
year after a brutal home invasion that left her traumatized, Cecelia,
along with her husband and their three-year-old daughter, move into a
new house with a complex security system that is supposed to make her
feel safe.

But reality proves different as strange things begin
to happen at home and the security system reveals that the house had a
prior occupant: Lydia.

On her quest to discover the fate of the
mysterious Lydia, Cecelia uncovers metaphorical skeletons in the closet,
and she realizes that that no one’s secrets are safe — including her
own.

My thoughts: This is the second book I’ve read by Nina Laurin and all I can say is this gal can sure write a twisted thriller! I will for sure be adding her to my must-read list from now on.

I don’t think I will ever tire of an unreliable narrator…there’s just something so captivating about them and Cecelia certainly falls within this spectrum. You want to believe her but then things start happening and you begin to wonder if there isn’t more to the story.

There are most definitely secrets here and of course, lets not forget that the new house that Cecilia and her family have moved into is one of those smart houses that is programmed to do everything and I mean EVERYTHING…it’s really quite spooky. Want a coffee in the morning – this house knows just how you like it and has it brewed just to your liking. It even knows your particular shower settings as opposed to your spouse’s. That’s not creepy or anything, right? But what happens when the coffee maker brews a coffee that isn’t what you drink? Or the shower setting comes out scalding? Or better yet, calls you by the wrong name?

This book kept me on the edge of my seat. First, I was so intrigued by the house. I have to say, it totally creeped me out. And then when things started going wrong, I just got such bad vibes, knowing something was up. But then, when the house started calling Cecelia the wrong name, I knew something was up. Who is Lydia?

The ground work was laid out but boy did this take us on quite a ride. There was so much more that happened that I didn’t even expect which I really loved! This psychological thriller will have you flipping the pages wondering just what is going on and also have you questioning our reliance on smart technology at the same time. I really enjoyed this one and highly recommend it.
