Short & Sweet Review: Cross the Line by James Patterson

Title: Cross the Line

Author: James Patterson

Series: Alex Cross, #24

Published: November 2016, Little, Brown & Company

Format: Hardcover, 373 pages

Source: Personal copy

Summary:

Alex Cross chases a cold-blooded killer…with a conscience.

Shots
ring out in the early morning hours in the suburbs of Washington, D.C.
When the smoke clears, a prominent police official lies dead, leaving
the city’s police force scrambling for answers.

Under pressure
from the mayor, Alex Cross steps into the leadership vacuum to
investigate the case. But before Cross can make any headway, a brutal
crime wave sweeps across the region. The deadly scenes share only one
common thread – the victims are all criminals. And the only thing more
dangerous than a murderer without a conscience, is a killer who thinks
he has justice on his side.

As Cross pursues an adversary who has
appointed himself judge, jury, and executioner, he must take the law
back into his own hands before the city he’s sworn to protect descends
into utter chaos.

***Short & Sweet Reviews are
short, quick reviews. These will mainly be used for series books where I
have already done full reviews on some of the earlier books or for
books that I feel will suffice with a quick review. These will not be
used for review requests or blog tours.

My thoughts:  After not really liking the last installment of this series, I’m happy to say this one was much better and more in style to what I usually expect from an Alex Cross book. There was the usual non-stop action, the case that had Alex, his partner Sampson and the rest of the team struggling for answers and some close calls for Alex – all par for the course. This is what I have come to expect from this series and why I enjoy it so much.

I also have to come really enjoy the interaction that we get from the Cross family. This is a big part of this series and I love that we have really come to know each of the Cross family members. We know just how important each and every member of the family is to Alex and I feel this is just as important to the overall arc of the books as the case itself. This is what makes Alex the strong character he is.

I’m so glad I decided not to give up after reading one bad book in this series…and this one just proved it. I really love this series and can’t wait to see what comes next!
