The greater the Evil, the more deadly the game…
When
a rapist is found mutilated in a brutal attack, Detective Kim Stone and
her team are called in to bring a swift resolution. But, as more
vengeful killings come to light, it soon becomes clear that there is
someone far more sinister at work.

With the investigation
quickly gathering momentum, Kim finds herself exposed to great danger
and in the sights of a lethal individual undertaking their own twisted
experiment.

Up against a sociopath who seems to know her every
weakness, for Detective Stone, each move she makes could be deadly. As
the body count starts to mount, Kim will have to dig deeper than ever
before to stop the killing. And this time – it’s personal.

My thoughts:This is the second book in Angela Marsons’ DI Kim Stone series and it was good possibly even better than the previous book. It’s dark and twisted and brilliantly crafted. And that title – let’s just say, it fits the book perfectly!!!

I am just loving the character of DI Kim Stone – she is such a complex, intriguing character and while a little more of her history is revealed in this book, there is still so much more to her that begs to be revealed. While most of the time, Kim comes off as pretty tough, seeing her compassionate and tender side from time to time is very heartwarming.

The murders that Kim and her team are called out the investigate seem pretty cut and dry at first glance but Kim has an uneasy feeling about them. As it turns out some sociopath is playing a wicked game and this villain‘s game and the conflict she has with Kim is psychologically intense! She gets under Kim’s skin in no time and it is unnerving.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time and the twists and turns kept me engaged throughout. It was tense and suspenseful all the way through and I felt my heart pounding quite a few times. I cannot wait for the next book and wonder if we have seen the last of this crazy villain!

Audio thoughts:I just love Jan Cramer and her narration of this series. She makes these characters come to live, especially DI Kim Stone. And her pacing is just spot on, especially for the tense moments that this book warranted. I’m so glad to see that Jan is the narrator all the way through book 5 – this makes me so happy!!!
