My thoughts:This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by Barbara Taylor Sissel and I was intrigued by the description. I’m always looking for new authors to try and this one sounded right up my alley.
I loved the way the author crafts her story…it’s a slow build, giving us characters that we can’t help but start to question as to their reliability. You so want to believe in them and find yourself rooting for them, but circumstances seem to be working against them. As each new character is introduced, you can’t help but question their motive and even their sincerity.
After suffering a bad fall, Lauren still has problems with her memory. When a random encounter with Bo, Annie’s brother, turns out to be the last sighting of him, Lauren isn’t sure she can trust her memory of the meeting. As the search for Bo continues, Lauren starts to question her sanity – is she really as forgetful and confused as it appears or is something else going on?
The mystery of this book is clever and well thought-out. I loved it because while I did eventually figure out part of it, I definitely didn’t see other parts and loved how the author tied it all together. This is family drama it its best and I am certainly going to be looking into Barbara Taylor Sissel’s other books…especially if they are all like this one!
Audio thoughts:This is the first time I’ve listened to Natalie Ross and I thought she did a great job with the narration. She was able to give each character a unique voice and really brought the story to life…in fact I can still hear her voices in my head…even after all this time! I will definitely be checking out what else she has narrated.
I've read two books by this author and enjoyed them. I haven't picked her titles up in a while, but will add this one to my look-for list. Thanks!
I almost picked this one up because I loved the cover so much but didn't get it and then it got buried by new books and I forgot all about it. It definitely sounds like an interesting read and I'm glad to hear the audio is good. I'll have to look for that version.
