New York Times bestselling author of The Good Girl, Mary Kubica returns with an electrifying and addictive tale of deceit and obsession

In
downtown Chicago, a young woman named Esther Vaughan disappears from
her apartment without a trace. A haunting letter addressed to My Dearest
is found among her possessions, leaving her friend and roommate Quinn
Collins to wonder where Esther is and whether or not she’s the person
Quinn thought she knew.

Meanwhile, in a small Michigan harbor
town an hour outside Chicago, a mysterious woman appears in the quiet
coffee shop where eighteen-year-old Alex Gallo works as a dishwasher. He
is immediately drawn to her charm and beauty, but what starts as an
innocent crush quickly spirals into something far more dark and sinister
than he ever expected.

As Quinn searches for answers about
Esther, and Alex is drawn further under Pearl’s spell, master of
suspense Mary Kubica takes readers on a taut and twisted thrill ride
that builds to a stunning conclusion and shows that no matter how fast
and far we run, the past always catches up with us in the end.

My thoughts:OMG…I don’t know how Mary Kubica keeps doing it, but she has managed once again to hit it out of the park with this latest psychological thriller…and while I have loved the previous two books, I think this one might be her best one yet!

I loved the way this book was written…the alternating chapters told from Esther and Alex’s point of views, sometimes ending with mini-cliffers so that you cannot wait to get back to that person’s next chapter. This is the type of book that you don’t want to put down…yet, you also want to savor the brilliance of the writing, so you don’t want to rush it either…but you want to know whats really going on and to do that, you need to get to the end…quite the dilemma.

This sentence, from the book, sums it all up: “…and makes me question everything I once thought I knew was true.” Oh, how many times did I say this to myself as a new clue came to light. I had theory after theory as to where this book was headed and who I could trust, but let me tell you, I kept having to recalculate and rethink everything I thought. And I loved it…this book kept me on my toes the entire time and then that ending…WOW – that really caught me off guard! I totally wasn’t expecting it

The suspense, the characters, the setting – it all comes together to give you a twisty, dark, addictive story – once you start reading this, you won’t be able to put it down! This is why Mary Kubica has become an auto-read author for me…I have devoured all three of her books and haven’t been disappointed yet!

***And don’t forget…if you want a chance to win a copy of this book…head over here!
