#FitReaders: Weekly Check-in January 2

#FitReaders is hosted by Geeky Bloggers Book Blog  and That’s What I’m Talking About

This is the first check-in for the new year and I am going to use this post to discuss my goals for the year. This is the second year I am participating in this group (formerly called #BookBlogWalkers) and I am so excited to see that the group is not only back, but even more bloggers have joined in this year!!!

My fitness goals are to work-out at least 5 days a week. I have signed up to walk another 1/2 marathon in March, so I need to get back on schedule with the training for that. I am also going to try to get back to yoga – I’d like to do 2 classes a week, depending on my schedule. I have a fitbit (if you’d like to friend me there, here’s my link.) and try to get 10K steps 5 days a week and at least 5K on the weekends. With the marathon training schedule, that might change a little, but we’ll see.

There’s also the possibility of me walking my first full marathon later this year. I’m still waiting to find out for sure if I’m going to do the full marathon or do the 1/2 like I did last year. This one is a charity walk (Walk the Walk’s #MoonWalkNYC) and the time constraints are much more lenient than trying to walk a regular marathon, so I thought it would be a good one to try out. Just waiting to find out exactly when the event will be held.

For both events, I will be walking with my mom – my favorite walking buddy! I only wish she lived closer – she’s in NC and I’m in NY – so that we could do our training walks together. For the most part, I will be doing my distance walks outdoors whenever possible, but in case of the extreme cold winter that we had last year, I will most likely resort to walking in the mall again. On days when I’m just working on speed, I’ll probably head to the gym to walk on the treadmill where it’s easier to do interval training.

While walking, I love to listen to audiobooks and I’ve noticed that quite a few in our group do, too. So, each week, I’ll try to remember to include what audiobooks I’ve been listening to.

Here’s how my week went:

Dec 27:  rest – family party at my house
Dec 28:  rest
Dec 29:  2-15 minute walks w/ dogs
Dec 30:  2-15 minute walks w/dogs

Dec 31:  2-15 minute walks w/ dogs
Jan  1:  1 hour indoor walking

Jan  2:  rest – sick 🙁

Audiobooks listened to this week: The Dress Shop of Dreams by Menna van Praag, narrated by Jennifer Carr.

Hope you are better soon, I guess resting up till your body recovers is the answer. Hope all the marathons go well this year, I always find you such a great role model and inspiration.

Thanks Kathryn! Staying in bed all day today seems to be helping!

Thank you! Once I get over this cold, I'll be back at the gym for my yoga classes.

Great goals for 2015, Kristin. I love to listen to audiobooks when walking outdoors. We have snow and no sidewalks in my neighborhood so its not safe to walk outside. These days I'm on the treadmill reading on my iPad.
I hope you feel better soon! Looking forward to your review of The Dress Shop of Dreams too.

Thanks Mary! We have the sidewalks – it just depends on how much snow as to whether they are usable!

Thanks! The charity walk is quite fun – imagine thousands of women and some men walking the streets of NYC in their bras!

Great fitness goals! You inspire me to take my own dog for a walk this afternoon.

Thanks Suko! I wish I was feeling up to taking the dogs for a walk today – but I spent all day in bed. Hopefully next week I'll be back to my regular routine!

Great goals! I signed up for a half marathon in March but I'm thinking of changing my distance. I have zero confidence of being ready to walk/run 13.1 miles by then.

Great goals and good to see you on this years challenge! I've missed a couple of posts but I have to do better this year. I plan to do a 5k this year and my goal is to improve last years time. Good luck on reaching your goals and have a great year!

Great fitness goals! I like to listen while I walk too – very motivating. That's so cool that you're working towards a half/full marathon. Way to go!
