Everyone loves Jack
Holland, but Emmaline Neal needs him. Her ex-fiancé is getting married
in Malibu and, obviously, she can’t go to the wedding alone. In
Manningsport, New York, tall, blond and gorgeous Jack Holland is
practically a cottage industry when it comes to rescuing desperate
women. He knows the drill, Em figures, so he won’t get the wrong idea.

What
Jack needs is an excuse to leave town. Ever since rescuing four
teenagers from a car wreck, he’s been hailed as a hero and the attention
is making him itchy, especially since his too-pretty ex-wife is back,
angling for a reunion. He’s always liked Emmaline. She needs a weekend
date? No problem.

So when they wind up in bed together, Em chalks
it up to red wine and chocolate cake, just one impulsive night not to
be repeated. But Jack’s pushing for more, and if she lets down her
guard, either she’ll get her heart crushed again, or discover that
Jack’s worth more than just dreaming about.

My thoughts: This 4th installment in Kristan Higgin’s Blue Heron series and I just love this series! The romances are sweet, the characters are fun and there’s a perfect balance of humor and seriousness to make it a perfect read.

In this latest book, we get Jack and Emmaline’s story. I think of all the books so far in this series, this has been my favorite romance! I just loved both characters and enjoyed the journey Jack and Em took to get to their HEA. What starts as a mercy date – Em needing a date for her ex-fiance’s wedding just as Jack needs a weekend away – turns into something more than either had planned on. Oh, there is definitely something between these two, there’s no doubt about that…but there are some pretty big obstacles in their way, including an ex-wife who refuses to see the truth!

What I love about this story is that the characters are so real. The problems they face are problems you and I might be dealing with in our lives, so it’s easy to relate to them. Em has overcome a stuttering problem and worries that it will come back at any time. Jack is dealing with hero worship when he feels like anything but a hero. It’s these traits that make these characters even stronger.

I also love the small-town setting of this book. You really feel as if the town itself is another character. It has charm, and part of that charm of course includes it’s quirky residents! I just love all the secondary characters in this series. We get to meet some new ones in this story as well as see some beloved ones.

I’ve read quite a few of Kristan’s books and this is by far the funniest, sweetest book. I do have some of her stand-alones on my iPad that will have to tide me over until the next Blue Heron book come out, providing this is not the last of the series…which I certainly hope it is not!

I pre-ordered and can't wait to read it (a few review books, cough cough, are ahead of it). Even if it's the last of the series you know KH will have a new stand alone or series in the works 🙂

I've read one Kristen Higgins and while I loved her writing I didn't love the couple so I've definitely been wanting to try another book. This sounds like the perfect one to try. Thanks for sharing!
