The Sunday Post #40 (9.14.14)

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about
what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. I’m also going to link this up with Sheila’s
It’s Monday post over at Book Journey

This past week was so busy at work that I didn’t have a lot of quality reading time. On top of that, the book I’m reading is quite the chunkster, so even though I was able to read a little bit here and there, I’m still not done. The book is great, but it’s just taking a bit longer to read than I would like! And this week isn’t looking much better…

On the positive side, I do get to spend the day in NYC one day this week. I have a training workshop I need to go to on Wednesday and it just so happens that my brother, who lives in London, will be in NYC this week, so we’re going to meet up for dinner! And I just might be able to sneak in a quick visit to my favorite tea shop to stock up on the loose teas I love.

Have a great week everyone!!!

I get so frustrated with chunksters right now just because I get so impatient. I'm taking a bit of a break from them. How great that you get to spend a day in New York and even better that your brother will be there! You've got some great reviews coming up. I still haven't read The Cuckoo's Calling so I need a shove in that direction. I'm curious about Kathy Reichs. I've had mixed results with her books so I'm a bit gun shy without a review. Have a fantastic week!

It didn't help that I basically went from one chunkster to another and then will be going to yet another – I am really loving this Century trilogy by Ken Follett, but each book is 900+ pages…so it takes a while to get thru each!

I enjoyed The Cuckoo's Calling. I did the audio and am thinking that's how I'll do that series. I've been enjoying the Kathy Reichs books – I'm reading her Tempe Brennan series (what the tv show Bones is based on). It's another series that I'm doing via audio and I'm enjoying it, but I am pretty far behind (I'm on book #4). I did get the latest book, Bones Never Lie (book #17), at BEA this year, so I might have to jump ahead to read that – it comes out next week!

Thanks! I have about 150 pages left. It's really good and I can't wait to start Edge of Eternity…but these chunksters are killing me!!! After I finish reading these 2, I'll picking some really short books to read 🙂

Sometimes I look at chunksters and think – not yet. I take it, it is Ken Follet, have never read a book by him. Great to meet up with your brother, that works in well.

That's what got me in the predicament in the first place with these books. I've had books 1 & 2 of Ken Follett's Century Trilogy (Fall of Giants and Winter of the World) sitting on my shelf for a while and have been meaning to read them – but their sheer size has put me off. Then I got an advanced copy of book 3 (Edge of Eternity), which comes out this week, so in order to be able to read and review that book in a timely manner, I needed to get to the other books. And I really felt this was a series you needed to read in order. Luckily the books are great and I am really enjoying them, but as soon as I am done with that third book, I am definitely picking some really short books to read!!!

Keen to hear what you think of the latest Kathy Reichs book! Some of hers have disappointed me a bit lately!

I'm only on book 4 of the Kathy Reichs series. I do have her latest, Bones Never Lie, and am thinking I might have to skip ahead to read that. So far, the books I've read I've enjoyed. Have you read all the books in the series?

I loved Accidents of Marriage, just got to get my review done. The last chunkster I read was Diana Gabaldon's An Echo in the Bone, it slowed my reading down to a snail's pace … can't afford too many of them lol. I do love Ken Follett though. Have fun in NYC … I love tea shops, one of my faves here is T2. They have a yummy chai tea and lots of delicious ice teas. Have a great week and happy reading 🙂

Accidents of Marriage was great and I'll be sure to check out your review. Yes, chunksters definitely take a hit on your reading pace, and it isn't helping that I'm basically reading 3 back-to-back. Oh well! At least they are all really good!!!

This tea shop I go to sell all types of loose tea – I go there every few months to stock up! My favorite is their special mix – which is a blend of black, green and oolong teas. It's so good!
