Review: Waking Kate by Sarah Addison Allen

Title: Waking Kate

Author: Sarah Addison Allen

From the beloved author of Garden Spells, comes Waking Kate, a
story about a woman who soon will face an unforseen change in her life.
One sticky summer day  as Kate is waiting for her husband to come home
from his bicycle shop, she spots her distinguished neighbor returning
from his last day of work after  eighty-six years at Atlanta’s oldest
men’s clothing store. Over a cup of butter coffee, he tells Kate a story
of love and heartbreak that makes her remember her past, question her
present, and wonder what the future will bring.

My thoughts: This is a prequel to Sarah Addison Allen’s full-length novel, Lost Lake. It introduces us to Kate, the main character. While it’s not necessary to read this before reading the novel, it does give some insight into Kate’s character.  As with all that SAA write, this short tale is magical and whimsical, and leaves you wanting more. I’ve read everything SAA has written to-date and had been looking forward to reading Lost Lake – my review of it will be posted shortly! This was the perfect little tidbit to really get me excited for the book!!!

Did you read this? If so, did you read it before or after reading Lost Lake?

I haven't read any of this author's work, but it sounds as if I'd enjoy it.

I enjoyed Lost Lake. I didn't know about this prequel. It sounds like an interesting read in such a short amount of pages!

I read it before Lost Lake – it was the perfect appetizer 🙂
