The First Book of the Year 2014

Each year, Sheila over at Book Journey makes a big deal over what the first book she’ll read will be for the new year and this year she’s asked us to join her.

For my first book of the year, I decided to go with a book I’ve been wanting to read for a while – and one that’s been sitting on my shelf for some time as well. And with Season 4 starting in just a few days here in the US – I thought the timing would be perfect…so without further ado – my book is: While We Where Watching Downton Abbey by Wendy Wax.

I’ve heard such great things about this book and have read quite a few of Wendy’s other books, so I know I’m in for a treat with this book. Plus, being a huge Downton Abbey fan – I think this will be the perfect book to tide me over until Sunday when Season 4 premieres…

So, what’s your first book of 2014 going to be?

Sounds like an ideal book! I haven't watched ANY Downtown Abbey but I'm getting more and more curious… I probably should just try it (starting with the first series, of course).

I admit I only jumped on the bandwagon last year – watched all 3 seasons at one time…but I absolutely love it!!!

I really liked this one. It does have spoilers for the first two seasons of the show but I think by now most people who are interested would have watched those.

I hope you enjoy the book! My first book of the year will either be Me Before You by Jojo Moyes or The Promise of Stardust by Priscille Sibley.

I watched all 3 seasons last year and then re-watched season 3 just recently when PBS rebroadcast them.

I loved The Promise of Stardust – really good, but a bit sad at times. I haven't read Me Before You yet, but hear it's also very good – have it on my list to read in 2014!

Nice photo…I haven't watched the show. ENJOY your book.

    Happy New Year!!!

In answer to your question you asked on my blog, yes…Tess is a Laura Lippman character. Lippman's books are very good…this one is a bit confusing, though.

I've been looking at that book! I started watching Downton back when the first season premiered in England but then quickly fell behind everyone else when it premiered in North America. Happy New Year!

I've seen this book floating around the blogospere lately. I love Downton Abbey also, and I'm looking forward to season 4 also. I read a book in 2013 about Downton Abbey and some of the performers on the show. Happy Reading in 2014.

Delighted to know this is your first book for the year. I enjoyed it, and just about finished watching season 4, have about 3 to go, was on during school term so I just recorded. Trouble is I keep ignoring TV to read!
    Happy New Year.

I'll have to put this on my to be read shelf. I can't wait for Downton Abbey this Sunday. I also just started with it last year. I watched all 3 seasons back to back. My first book of 2014 will be The Indigo Spell by Richelle Mead. I have about 100 pages left to go in it.
