“What
do you get when you mix one dashing British concierge with three lonely women
from diverse backgrounds, set them all in a historic apartment building in Midtown
Atlanta, then turn on
the television? What you get, actually, is
quite a clever, fun little novel. And could Wendy Wax be
any more clever naming it While We Were Watching Downton Abbey?
That title alone is
reason enough to pick up the book and see what
the heck is going on.”

Craig Wilson, USA Today

“In
the style of Karen Joy Fowler’s “The Jane Austen Book Club,” Wendy
Wax’s novel follows the story of
three women who live in the same Atlanta
apartment building and form a bond through a
common
love of all things
Downton Abbey . . . engrosses its reader . . . refreshing.”Deseret
News

“Whether
you love Downton Abbey or not,
you’ll fall in love with these characters.”
Working Mother

“Wendy
Wax’s fresh approach to an entertaining story line hooks us with the idea that
other things could
happen
‘while we were watching
Downton Abbey‘ . . . engrossing.”Book Reporter

“Reading
Wendy Wax is like discovering a witty, wise, and wonderful friend.”
–Claire
Cook, bestselling author of Must Love Dogs and Time Flies

Wendy
Wax’s WHILE WE WERE WATCHING DOWNTON ABBEY, a story of unlikely
friendships sparked by the camaraderie of Downton Abbey viewing parties,
received a flurry of attention when news of its Berkley Books publication
spread just as Season 3 of the program drew to a close.  Wax’s most successful book to date it has
gone back to press for seven trade paperback printings, was recently published
in the U.K. by Orion, has just been nominated for eBook of the Year by the UK
e-retailer Sainsbury, and is now published for the first time in a mass market
paperback edition (Jove/12-31-13/$7.99).

Downton
Abbey
viewers share passionate discussions via
social
media, around the water cooler and in homes across the nation, hold Downton Abbey events, participate on the
show’s fan pages and, as the series continues to unfold, relate more and more
to the ups and downs of the program, its characters and their travails.  That’s what happens to the protagonists of WHILE WE WERE WATCHING DOWNTON ABBEY.

In the novel, Wax introduces three
women who live in a historic Atlanta building and the residence’s British
concierge, who has decided to host weekly screenings of Downton Abbey leading up to the start of the third season.  Each of the four is at a crossroads and what
happens to them is familiar to many Downton
fans.  They find themselves
connecting with the addictive drama, and
even
more unexpectedly
with
each other.  For them, it’s a season of
surprises as they forge bonds that will sustain them through life’s hardest
moments
all reflected in the unfolding plot, humor and convergent
lives of Downton Abbey.

WHILE
WE WERE WATCHING DOWNTON ABBEY
, inspired by the program, is nonetheless
quintessential Wendy Wax, inviting readers to join her as she explores
friendship, loyalty, self-discovery and the seemingly insurmountable challenges
life sometimes presents.
