Looking to get lucky?

Stephanie
Plum is back between-the-numbers and she’s looking to get lucky in an
Atlantic City hotel room, in a Winnebago, and with a brown-eyed stud who
has stolen her heart.

Stephanie Plum has a way of attracting danger,
lunatics, oddballs, bad luck . . . and mystery men. And no one is more
mysterious than the unmentionable Diesel. He’s back and hot on the trail
of a little man in green pants who’s lost a giant bag of money. Problem
is, the money isn’t exactly lost. Stephanie’s Grandma Mazur has found
it, and like any good Jersey senior citizen, she’s hightailed it in a
Winnebago to Atlantic City and hit the slots. With Lula and Connie in
tow, Stephanie attempts to bring Grandma home, but the luck of the Irish
is rubbing off on everyone: Lula’s found a job modeling plus-size
lingerie. Connie’s found a guy. Diesel’s found Stephanie. And Stephanie
has found herself in over her head with a caper involving thrice-stolen
money, a racehorse, a car chase, and a bad case of hives.

Plum Lucky
is an all-you-can-eat buffet of thrills, chills, shrimp cocktail,
plus-size underwear, and scorching hot men. It’s a between-the-numbers
treat no Evanovich fan will want to miss!

My thoughts: Another fun, quick Between-the-Numbers story, this time centering around the ‘Luck of the Irish’ and of course another visit from Diesel. It also brings some other memorable characters back that we haven’t seen in a while.

It seems Grandma Mazur has found a duffel bag full of money and now has a little green guy chasing her around trying to get the money. Believing in the adage “Finder’s Keepers” she does what every 80 something old woman would – buys herself a Winnebago and heads to Atlantic City. Getting a great deal on a RV that was specifically designed for little people, she hires Briggs to be her chauffeur and to keep an eye on the duffel bag while she gambles.

When Stephanie needs to head to Atlantic City to bring Grandma back home, Lula and Connie decide to tag along and the hilarity ensues. Wherever Lula goes, she finds herself in interesting situations – this time it’s about her trying to become a plus-size lingerie model. Not only does she believe that this will actually happen, but she then takes on that persona. She actually says at one point that she “doesn’t want to mess up her karma now that she’s going to be a super model.” Oh how I love Lula and her delusional thinking!

There is quite a bit of action, a lot of hilarious scenes and a bit of romance in this latest ‘Between the Numbers’ installment. I do enjoy seeing Diesel every once in a while as there is definitely something between him and Stephanie – just another wrench in the already complicated love triangle Stephanie has found herself in.

If you read this series – do you like these ‘Between the Numbers’ books or do you skip them? What about in other series – do you read the extra books?

Audio Thoughts:
I give Lorelei King a lot of credit for being able to do these voices and carry on the conversations in this book without breaking character. Especially with all the craziness that comes with both Grandma Mazur and Lula. Lorelei is definitely a gifted narrator!
