Book Beginnings Friday: So Pretty It Hurts

Please join Rose City Reader
every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are
reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence,
impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.  Please
remember to include the title of the book and the author.

I’m reading So Pretty It Hurts by Kate White:

An old geezer of a reporter I used to work with once said that I had a rotten habit of biting off my nose to spite my face.

Isn’t that a fun opening line? I’ve been waiting
for so long for this book to come out. It’s the 6th book in Kate White’s
Bailey Weggin series and the last book came out 5 years ago. Bailey is a
crime reporter for a magazine and ends up being an amateur sleuth on
the side. The series is great and it’s written by Cosme editor Kate
White – who once said in an interview that people around her are now
very careful of what they say when she’s near because they’ve seen their
words in her books!

Have you read any of this series?

I have read the first few of these but it has been so long that I have forgotten most of the details of the story. I do remember liking them though and will take a look for this one as soon as I can see over the top of my TBR mountain. Happy reading!

It has been a long time, but I just couldn't resist reading it. I put it on reserve at the library and it came in the other day…it's pretty good so far.

That is a great first line! I have never heard of this author but now I will have to add these books to my "to try" list.

I've never read any of the books in this series but I'm intrigued by the opening of this book and by the fact the author is an editor for Cosmo! Very cool. I'll add this series to my wishlist.

Thanks for visiting my blog today:)

It's a fun series…and as I mentioned above, the previous book in the series came out five years ago.

If you like the whole amateur sleuth thing, you will like this, plus the snippets from the magazine editor life are fun to read about.

That is a great first sentence (and an interesting post you wrote about it). I was not aware of this book or series. What genre is it? I see that you read some mysteries also.

It was in the mystery section of the library. The whole series is light and fun, with a reporter who turns into an amateur sleuth – lots of laughs, some tense moments, and some insights into the world of magazine reporting.

I haven't read the series, but I do enjoy a good maturer sleuth mystery,k so I will go investigate more.

Thanks for posting this on Book Beginnings!
