From the back of the book:A beloved daughter. A devastating choice. And now there’s no going back.

Four years ago, nineteen-year-old Travis Brown made a choice: to raise
his newborn daughter on his own. While most of his friends were out
partying and meeting girls, Travis was at home, changing diapers and
worrying about keeping food on the table. But he’s never regretted his
decision. Bella is the light of his life. The reason behind every move
he makes. And so far, she is fed. Cared for. Safe.

But when Travis loses his construction job and his home, the security
he’s worked so hard to create for Bella begins to crumble…

Then a miracle. A job in Raleigh has the power to turn their fortunes
around. It has to. But when Travis arrives in Raleigh, there is no job,
only an offer to participate in a onetime criminal act that promises
quick money and no repercussions.

With nowhere else to turn, Travis must make another choice for his daughter’s sake.

Even if it means he might lose her.

My thoughts: I haven’t read a book by Diane Chamberlain in a while and I’m not sure why. She is an amazing author and crafts these heartwarming, touching stories. The Good Father is certainly no exception.

At the heart of this story is the question of how far parents are willing to go to protect their children. Travis is confronted with this when he finds himself down and out on his luck and no where to turn for help. Erin and Robin are also central characters in this story and little by little we find out their stories and how they, too, are/were confronted with that same question. As each story is told, we get a little more attached to the little girl, Bella. Who could resist that sweet little girl?

The story goes back and forth from all three characters’ points of view, pushing the story forward. At times we go back in time and at other times, we are in the present. All together this creates a unique story that really tugs at the heartstrings. I really felt as if I knew these characters when I finished the book.

Have you ever read a book where you don’t want it to end or at least hope that you will be able to revisit those characters? That’s how I felt when I finished this book. I wanted more – I want to be able to reconnect with these characters in the future. What about you?

Scavenger Hunt/Excerpt:

But she was there and she smiled like she’d been waiting for us.

“There she is!” Bella shouted loudly
enough for the two girls at the corner table to look over us. They were
close to my age. Twenty-two. Twenty-three.
